Probably more versatile than Patterson and I can see both playing. Hickey reminds me of Tierney in terms of his technical ability, strength, speed and intelligence. I was thinking the same. This week showed how important the depth of our squad is. It's been great how many players have stepped up and showed what they can do. Alternatively, we’ll just be like big nations and have great players on the bench. Patterson is currently more of an attacking threat from RB. Hickey, like Tierney, could play just about anywhere. Having a two footed player in central midfield would allow for very quick switches of play and counterattacks, and more effective tackling. Absolutely right. Its no longer who's the best XI. There also needs to be a change in players mentality, we've seen it in rugby union too. If you're left on the bench, it doesn't mean that the manager doesn't rate you. With games coming fix and fast there needs to be more squad rotation and also the use of impact subs (Dykes and Fraser last week, and a role that Burke in particular would be well suited for). Diamond Scot Posted September 28, 2022 Share Posted September 28, 2022 What about the many posters who were saying Hickey should never play for Scotland because he took the decision to concentrate on his club development rather than playinf for the U21s. I hope they are man enough to accept that they were totally wrong and that Hickey knew best, and was actually very mature and single minded to make such a big call. Said it a while back, Hickey is going to be a massive talent. Look at his physique now and compare it to Bales at the same age. I can only see him going from strength to strength. He is already strong, fast, 2 footed and can read the game. He is street smart with things like body positioning and drawing fouls. Patterson has bags of potentil aswell. Very similar to Hutton and I think both have a big future for Scotland. Its not about one or the other. They can both play at different stages in different types of games.
