Well - at least that offers a bigoted explanation for the irrational vitriol towards him. O'Donnell has always been a reliable 7/10 of player for Scotland. Against England he was one of our best players. Patterson (or Calvin Ramsey) might be the future - but for now O'Donnell is arguably a better defender than both. Yes it does... and no it doesn't. 😀 It is all so insane. I was sitting here trying to think of any country in the world where a possible explanation for a player in the national team facing 'irrational vitriol' would be "...his brother is a Catholic Priest". FFS it would be hilarious were it not so, so boring. Interestingly his brother could have been a high ranking Satanist and nobody would have given a shit. lol. As Scots we should be celebrating the fact a player from Motherwell had Rahem Sterling & Jack Grealish in his back pocket for 90 minutes at Wembley. Those boys never got a sniff - Sterling even swapped wings to other side of the pitch because O'Donell was so tight on him 🤣 FWIW : Patterson is clearly better going forward but still a little raw and naive defensively. Couple of times he got got caught out against Moldova. O'Donell is the right choice for tonight. C'mnon Scotland!

Problem is more that he does less because he is not as able as others. Keeping the ball on the left because the guy on the right isn't a very good long term strategy. Caledonian Craig
The best piece of BS is how O'Donnell kopped the blame for the second Czech goal. He got slated for being too slow for closing down the player getting the cross in but FFS it wasn't even his flank it was Robertson's. However, by the time the ordination came around, Alessio was in charge and revoked the permission.

ProudScot
Who gives a fuck what his brother does. Hopefully tonight he doesn’t kill all our attacks down the right hand side and or perform like the Czech & Croatia games but time will tell. With this level of encouragement from his own supporters, he may well need his brother's prayers!!!

Aye. Reading these posts then surely not many will be watching tonight since anti-christ O'Donnell is playing we're bound to lose as was the case when he played Serbia in the play-off and England at Wembley......oh wait. 0Neils40yarder
I've read some irrational, delusional pish on social media forums over the years but SOD being under constant scrutiny because his brother is a priest is an absolute belter. The guy isn't a good fitba player, it's as simple as that. Edited September 7, 2021 by 0Neils40yarder
kumnio
As above, O’Donnell gets criticised because he isn’t good enough. I’ve seen plenty of criticism of him on here and Twitter, but never seen anything about his brother until this thread.
aaid
So if I’ve got it right then the criticism of O’Donnell comes from Rangers fans who are pissed off because he’s keeping their boy Patterson out of the team and his brother is a priest? That would be the same Rangers supporters that were also told have no interest in Scotland and in fact support England. Something doesn’t add up here.
