It is strange how well he has done for us compared with his club. Maybe we should put him in the Billy Gilmour boat of "plays better with better players".

Like I have said beforeĀ  - some lesser players raise their game at international level whereas some lauded club players become shrinking violets for us. O'Donnell is certainly the former. Take a look at our best and most important results for us in the last two years or so and O'Donnell has been in the side yet fans will tell you he is consistently shite. I will take Clarke's commendation over haters.

Hes not been shite, hes played quite well in the majority of his games.Ā

We have a better option now in patterson but o donnell has done reasonably well for us and deserves some positive recognition for his service.Ā

I don't remember other admittedly limited but hard-working full-backs get the abuse that SOD gets. What about Ralston, Palmer or the current manager of Motherwell? SOD has given Dykes one assist and might have given Adams an assist against England had he (Adams) been able to tap in the rebound. If you're comparing SOD with Tierney or Robertson then you're demanding very high standards from him. If O'Donnell is the best available then we play him - end of story.

Yeh if o donnell plays then i am sure he will do ok. Shame patterson might not make it. Hes looked excellent for us and really gives us an extra dimension. End of the day we need our other top players to step up and perform if guys like patterson and tierney are out.

Absolutely this...we have been on this run despite him, rather than because of him.Ā

Ā

Hickey will need to play at right back and one of McKenna or Cooper will need to replace KT

Exactly.

Hickey RWB or Ralston if Patterson is out for me.

Graham Alexander was miles better than SOD, as is Ralston

Hickey getting more minutes in a harder league than Ralston, SOD and even Paterson. Heā€™s playing every game for Bologna. He showed on Monday night he can play on the right against the top team in the league.Ā

I have no problem with a back 3 of Mctominay, Hanley and Cooper if KT cant make it.Ā

Hickey might be a good option especially if he gets some more gametime on the right over the coming months.Ā

A back line of hendry, hanley and cooper with robbo and hickey as full backs would be my choice.

Does O'Donnell really come in for "abuse"? I don't think he does.

One or two people saying he is "shite" which is obviously stupid, but most people (myself included) simply don't see him as the preferred option, even as back up to Patterson. I don't think he's "shite" at all. I just think we have better options.

My view is based on my strong belief that Scotland are always better when taking the game to the opposition, so I am happy to give preference to a RWB whose strengths are more on the attacking side than the defensive side. That is definitely not O'Donnell.

We've had plenty of players that saved their best for Scotland. Our biggest legend this century, James McFadden, never hit the heights at club level that he should have, but when he played for Scotland he more often than not pulled out World Class performances.

I'd probably say the same for Hutton. There was a period where he played more for Scotland than he did for his club, and was still coming out with MOTM performances.

If Gilmour can match what those 2 did, I'd be more than happy.Ā

Don't remember him letting us down. He has been steadier than some at the back.Ā

I'm hoping that Kieran Tierney and Nathan Patterson return in time. But in their absence,Ā  both suggested lineups look good to me.

If Nathan Patterson doesnā€™t make the Play-Off fixtures then Iā€™d say Hickey has a very good shout to start at RB position.Ā

SOD has been a great servant to Scotland and will now be squad player IMOĀ

Ā

Another alternative and would not be surprised in the slightest is if Tino Livramento gets called into the Squad, has said heā€™s eligible to playĀ for Scotland with with having a Scottish Mum. Heā€™s not even close to getting an Engerland call up with the riches they have in that position - similar to our LB situation! Steve Clarke would be daft not to have him in his sights and with Armstrong & Adams both at Southampton with him, itā€™s not beyond the realms of possibilityĀ

See Ryan Christie was substituted at half time in Bournemouth's defeat at West Brom.Don't know if he was injured or just having a bad game, but it seems a bit early to be substituted considering he is one of their top players.Surely not another non runner?

Tierney has no chance. Arsenal not even sure if he will be fit for pre season in July.Ā

I havenā€™t read anywhere from Arsenal saying he might not make pre-seasonĀ

All we can hope, is the damage not as bad as the tabloids and many people making out!Ā
Letā€™s keep our fingers crossed, the quote below is what the Club have to say on the matter -Ā

Kieran Tierney
Left knee. Kieran felt discomfort after a training session on Thursday, March 31. Further assessments and scans have confirmed that Kieran has damaged his left knee.

A specialist consultation took place on Tuesday, and as a result of further discussions with Kieran and our medical team, it has been decided that Kieran requires surgery to his knee. This procedure will take place in London in the forthcoming days.

Kieranā€™s rehabilitation programme will start immediately after his surgery, at which stage a clearer understanding will be established on his recovery timescale. However, it is likely that Kieran will now miss the remainder of this season.

Everyone at the club will now be supporting and working hard with Kieran to get him back on the pitch as soon as possible.

I have accepted he is out of the play-offs. Surgery is a serious business and normally takes months to heal rather than weeks including the time to regain full match fitness and sharpness.Ā

Lewis Fiorini scored and got Man of the match last night.Ā

A fantastic player IMO and has almost been an ever present in the Scotland U21ā€™sĀ

Had a loan spell over in Holland and now with Lincoln City and getting great reviews but there will come a time he has to step up to the next level, will be hard for him to break into that Manchester City Team though and I dare the Scotland 1st XIĀ

I don't want to sound overly negative but he almost certainly won't play for the Man City first team. From what I have read about him he has a chance to be a Premier League level player, but probably not an elite level player, and very much not at this stage in his career. Remember he has played a lot, but it is at Dutch second division and English third division level. Hopefully he gets a loan to the Championship to see if he can make an impact at that level next season and maybe a permanent move thereafter.

You are right. Such a shame for him. Hope he makes a full recovery and comes back as soon as he can.Ā
