Elliot Anderson starting for Newcastle v Benfica,Apparently Eddie Howe wants to keep him rather than send him on loan, really impressing in pre season.

Shame if that's true. A spell playing in Scotland might have concreted his commitment to us.

A few bits of U21 news

Eddie Howe has been impressed with Lucas De Bolle in pre season as well as Anderson.

Sonny Blu Everton has appeared in a Derby pre season game, was offered a new deal at Watford but not sure if he rejected it and joined Derby or is going on loan.

Sam long has joined Boston on loan from Lincoln, impressed on loan at Drogheda last year.

Jack Stretton has been involved as a striker for Derby in pre season.

Dapo Mebude has been featuring from the bench for Watford.

I read about John McGinn being named Captain but it also mentioned Ashley Young as Club Captain - what is the difference? If what I read is accurate, the Club Captain is the go between between Athletes and Administration. The Captain is leader on the pitch.

Club captain is just a symbolic title.

It's usually given to a highly experienced player with a lot of appearances for the club but whose career is winding down and is unlikely to feature regularly for them. Celtic did it with Tom Boyd in his final season for example.

Not too clever from Souttar for Livingstons goal.

Just posted in another thread. He is so far below international standard. We love to slag guys like Hanley and Cooper (Cooper has been poor for Scotland recently) however they would walk through games in the Scottish Prem for either of the Old Firm.

I was hoping Souttar would get to that level but possibly not. We still lack top quality centre backs.

McLaughlin in goals for Rangers at least is a positive from a Scotland squad stand point.

I think he has tended to start the league games with McGregor doing the Eutopean qualifiers in recent seasons before McGreggor takes over in the league. Not sure the thinking behind it.

Yes, got rolled again on thr halfway line at start of 2nd half and was lucky his attempt at a challenge was so poor it didnt connect as it would have been a certain 2nd yellow.

He got subbed after 67 mins for James Sands (a makeshift CB). He wasnt injured and it wasnt tactical so that probably tells you everything about what the manager thought.

Lewis Fiorini got Man of the match in his Championship debut in Blackpools win v Reading.

Thats good to see, a season in the championship will do him good then next season a loan move to an epl side. Its a big ask for him to make it at city but theres a decent chance of him making it as an epl player.

Doesnt sound good but hopefully its just a bad game. Every player has them.
