The French seem to have gone with a strong side:

France: Maignan, Clauss, Pavard, Konate, T Hernandez, Camavinga, Tchouameni, Griezmann, Dembele, Mbappe, Giroud.

Subs: Samba, Areola, Gusto, Lukeba, Kolo Muani, Rabiot, Thuram, Todibo, Fofana, Kamara, Coman, L Hernandez

I make it eight changes for us:

  • GK - Gunn -> Kelly
  • RB - Hickey -> Patterson
  • CB - McKenna
  • CB - Porteous -> Cooper
  • CB - Hendry
  • LB - Robertson -> Taylor
  • DM - McGregor -> Gilmour
  • DM - McTominay -> McLean
  • AM - McGinn -> McTominay
  • AM - Christie -> Ferguson
  • ST - Dykes -> Adams

Max Johnston on the bench on his first international call up.

For France, I make it four changes from their 2-1 win over the Dutch:

  • GK - Maignan
  • RB - Clauss
  • CB - Konate
  • CB - L Hernandez -> Pavard
  • LB - T Hernandez
  • CM - Rabiot -> Camavinga
  • CM - Tchouameni
  • AM - Griezmann
  • LW - Mbappe
  • RW - Coman -> Dembele
  • ST - Kolo Muani -> Giroud

And the 2023 award for understatement goes to....

Wasn’t expecting a strong a France lineup as that but then again, what do you even consider as not a strong French lineup? 😅

The strength in depth and the quality of player they have coming through their youth sides is frightening.

For us, I’m looking forward to it even though it is most likely going to be a long night although would be thrilled if we got a result against the best international side in Europe. A big chance for some of these players to really stake a claim and give Steve Clarke a few things to think about going forward.

So if Brown doesn't get any minutes tonight, can we please use his spot for someone else?

I’m surprised how he got into the squad ahead of some like Ryan Hardie who’s been scoring goals for Plymouth in the championship and is the top goalscoring Scottish player in that league just now. I don’t know if Jacob Brown has even kicked a ball for Luton yet?

That's as close to the strongest France team as you are likely to see in a friendly. Whereas we are missing, arguably, 4 out of our 5 best players - Robbo, Tierney, McGinn, Hickey. (McTominay being the 5th.) Then we'd normarily have McGregor, Christie and Gunn playing as well.

I hope we don't regret these changes, or regret booking this friendly in the first place.

Think he’s started just about every game although not scored

I thought the game was hardly underway and just had a peek at Twitter and saw a "Yesss Scotland!!!" and I just assumed it was a sort of "C'mon Scotland" shout, but no! 😅
