Rossy
Ordinary people my arse. As if you Cringers somehow want to persuade Scotland that you 'love the country'. The whole No campaign has been the most negative, bullying, patronising, insulting, degrading in the history of world politics. It'll be a disgrace if Uncle Tom's like yourself win out on Thursday. **** off and **** my ****.
kumnio
Alan, youre right mate, the last letter is a shining example of why we should stay. Nationalism is an ugly force, accentuating and exaggerating minor differences, creating and exploiting perceived grievances. It’s worth pointing out that in the event of a ‘yes’ vote, it would be the fiduciary duty of the rump UK government to negotiate the absolute best deal for its taxpayers — which would mean no more favours to Scotland. The SNP will reap what they sow, but it is the ordinary British citizen who will ultimately lose out. We will all be diminished.Stewart Fergus, South Croydon
Khana Lagur
All very nice but we aren't going anywhere - just making our own way in the world. They can all still visit.
Stapes
And it eventually descends into the uninformed and threatening (complete with snazzy bow tie): Nationalism is an ugly force, accentuating and exaggerating minor differences, creating and exploiting perceived grievances. giblet
apparently there is a big "please stay" party in Trafalgar Square on Monday at 6pm, just in tim to catch some commuters and of course the 6pm news. Our old pals Eddie Izzard and Dan the history man Snow event.
Lamia
Alan any chance of explaining how the new powers could be used to improve life in Scotland? I know it is a bit difficult since we have even less clarity about what they are but maybe you could just tell me how each of the 3 main parties original proposals would do this. Alternatively you can join the ever growing list of No's who have been unable to even attempt to answer.
Rossy
For the second time in a week here in Catalonia I've had to listen...and eventually interject....to a group of middle aged, middle class, English f*ckwits in a restaurant loudly tell all and sundry what they think about Scotland. Their comments were thinly veiled racism, a bitter dislike fuelled by the ignorance and hatred of the English press. Better together my arse....these people (and I have no doubt that they're representative of English opinion) hate and resent us almost beyond believe. Any Scot that accepts this is the ultimate Uncle McTom. It's disgusting.
mariokempes56
Rossy, agreed . My mate just back from posh Spanish holiday and he was surrounded by sneering torygraph utterly ignorant misinformed arseholes. There is shite ahead if its no. Rossy
you aiming to harness free speech in this utopia why would you think it's your place to 'interject' a private conversation It's not a 'private conversation' when people are talking loudly, arrogantly and ignorantly in a restaurant. I've been in restaurants before with my wife and kids and asked groups to stop swearing/talking about their sex lives etc etc. No doubt you would crawl under a stone and accept it. Good for you. I won't.
Padre Andrew
Heartfelt letters from ordinary people to Scotland http://www.spectator.co.uk/features/9311032/please-scotland-stay-with-us/ These are hilarious. A few claim to cringe at some of the No campaign’s efforts to cajole / threaten us to stay in the union, but they are cut from the same whining love-bombing end of the cloth. “We love you, don’t go”. You’re “the five million counterweight for the 60 million. The pricking conscience” (Amy from Oxfordshire); “Don’t ‘start a new nation’” (yes, really: Matthew Lumby from Chester) Roll on next Thursday. giblet
I decided against going to a conference this week purely as I knew I would be surrounded by middle class tossers demeaning my Country and its people.
Rossy
I truly feel sorry for Alan. I don't. I'll never understand or accept for the rest of my life how people like him will happily swallow the abuse and derision that's been thrown at Scotland. Complete Uncle Tom's....willing to accept any humiliation so long as it pleases the establishment.
brant grebner
As far as I recall, Uncle Tom was a decent moral man who helped others to freedom. The phrase that's probably more appropriate is this
fringo
Just switched over to French news which is discussing Obama's interjection on Syria/Iraq and IS - and they guy referred to UK as England ! Small thing but gets my goat especially when their next report is about the Indyref !?
Auld_Reekie
See, this is their problem. They've went soft. It's embarrassing. They couldn't give 5 f*cks last week and suddenly we "prick their conscience"? Have a look at yourself. If they want to keep their pride, start engaging in local politics and stop electing complete throbbers to parliament. Trafalgar Square on Monday will be the equivalent of p*shing yourself in front of your mates and England needs to give itself a serious slap. hunchy
Most of the guys I work with down in Cambridgeshire have been making a joke out of the whole " we love you scotland" and Cameron's idea of getting people to ask scotland to vote no. Fair play to them they could have made it genuine but have been constantly corrected when they ask about something the media have said
Jonny
"Once, I also dreamt of an independent Scotland, the master of its own destiny. I voted SNP, cheered Scotland and anyone opposing England. Then I moved to England in the late 1990s, as an ‘economic refugee’. To my discomfort, I found the English (aside from their annoying habit of calling Britain ‘England’) were just like us: worried about their kids’ education; lamenting summer weather; concerned with their own daily challenges; despairing of (and largely unrepresented by) their government. Now I fervently hope that Scotland will stay. Apart from anything else Scotland is the balance for the Union; the five million counterweight for the 60 million. The pricking conscience. The innovator. The socialist. The ballast." What a load of utter nothing.
