Every single Labour member and sympathiser who has tweeted about this has been made to look incredibly stupid. The mass surge to hit the delete function on their inane remblings can be heard as far away as the Palace of Versailles. SIlly, silly people, but immensely pleasing to watch their self destruction accelerate with under a month to go before GE 2015.

Dugdale in particular has made a right of herself, not surprising given the fact she's a complete idiot.

Small print box at the back of the Telegraph with insincere apology to the FM to be expected.

Edit* M0r0n is on the swear filter? WTF?

Guest flumax

The BBC's James Cook said: "While Nicola Sturgeon may or may not have said it... there are definitely some people within the Scottish National Party for whom five years of the Tories to attack would be a better outcome than getting into bed with Labour."

May as well say, whether she said something or not, we'll just make something out of this story any way. Ffs

Just read the alleged memo. At the end the civil servant even suggests that something may have been lost in translation. So this is a paper that regards itself as a quality paper putting as Gospel truth third hand stories, denied by the participants and which might not even have been said in the first place! But even that won't stop the Biased Broadcating Company running with it.

Staggering turn of events

The BBC's flagship Today programme this morning (7am and 7.30) led with Ed Miliband's housing proposals, Tory anti-porn proposals, something about the Lib Dems, and something about parents taking their children out of schools. So... those fine political minds of Humphreys and Naughtie not (yet) put to any use scrutinising the Sturgeon story

I think this episode has been a carefully crafted operation to make labour (especially in Scotland) look stupid.

And it has worked - magnificently.

As long as this memo actually exists, the Telegraph may have little to apologise for, but others have given it credence and blown it into a story

We need a new series of The Thick of It with '7-party politics' and the BBC in the thick of it

Someone who pishes their strides in public and assaults a police officer, speaks of 'highest integrity'.

they wont let us go as they see us as the last piece of evidence of empire

:ok: So true. The British would be forced to look inwards at themselves and admit the real truths of the last 300 years .The very institutions that are the cornerstone of their so called democracy would be exposed and shattered .Turned on by the same propaganda machine that persuades them they are important to the world.

They just couldn't handle it.

Jim Naughtie later covered it (about 8.25am) but made the point that it had been denied by Sturgeon, the Scottish Government, the Consul General and the French Embassy. Was quite impressed as he seemed to imply that it was total nonsense.

Interesting. But then... the 'total nonsense' angle (and who's behind it?) has yet to be pursued.

Maybe 'embarrassing twitter frenzy over unsubstantiated tory press smear' is not news any more.

But then... the R4 9 o'clock bulletin did cover the story (after first dutifully trotting out the 3 'big parties' campaigning agendas of the day), where newsreader repeated the words about her not seeing Ed Miliband as PM material (sounded like a direct quote)

Edit: my earlier link pointing to the memo should have been

This is just the beginning .

The same began to happen to Alex Salmond several years ago.it is absolutely incredible that they could find nothing on this man.He must be the cleanest politician on the planet. So they made a decision to drip feed a complex web of lies.Just the persona the British state wants to portray. They have the most varied and controlled propaganda machine and it will now be directed to include Nicola as well.

There is a lot of evidence to suggest people only remember the headlines.I guarantee one thing the headlines for the denial and apology wont be half as impressive or staged as the headlines that the false accusers promote.
