I'd say, given how potentially short we could be in midfield for these games, that McTominay will be used in a midfield role more than a defensive role.

Good chance to see how a mctominay/Gilmour midfield performs. Also great that we have such strength in depth in midfield.

At present we have dependable experienced defenders in the squad in his position who haven't really let us down. I have no doubt he'll get a call-up soon should he keep up his current form and should we have injury worries in defence.

If McGregor not fit then likely McTominay plays midfield and with Hanley suspended, and Gallagher dropped, it’s a surprise Souttar is not in the squad. Likewise with Armstrong injured and Fraser too, surprised someone like Gauld not included.

Armstrong, Mcgregor and Fraser aren’t kicking a ball just now. Not sure how they will be match fit for this.

Big difference between premier league fitness and Scotland fitness , it’s a fairly low bar for us.

is Ryan fraser injured again or just out of favour for us.

The defence has plenty of options even with Hanley out (V Israel) and McTominay in midfield. The back three will see the options of Hendry (very solid for us lately and would probably have started anyway), Cooper (not let us down in previous games), McKenna (likewise has not let us down) and Tierney who is an instant pick for us anyway. To drop Souttar right in to a crucial World Cup Qualifier cold would be a massive risk and if it didn't pay off I know who the fans would be blaming.

Is Gauld/Clarke the new Zaha/Moyes 😄

He is absolutely flying over in America, yet can't get a sniff.

Gauld seems to become a better player after every squad.

I'd say Morgab would get a call up before gauld too given hes been in before and playing well at same level.

Morgan is a RWB now and probably should get a shot. As much as I'm Rangers fan and love Patterson, it is hard to justify his call ups atm.

Gauld deserves a call up for his form over the past season and a bit. Especially if Ferguson is in when he hasn't exactly been great this season. Don't get me wrong I think Ferguson has a lot of potential and could be a very good player in the future for us. K.McLean is also having a very poor start to the season.

Agreed, can only think it is probably a mixture of loyalty, avoiding long travel arrangements for Covid issues and perhaps assuming recovery from injury. Its only a double header so only a 24 man squad. However, if Fraser, Armstrong, McGregor don't recover and/or don't play and he limits the number we bring in  and we end up with more dropping out, then we could be short again of match-fit players (e.g. no Paul McGinn?).

Morgan Has played 25 times this season and has only scored one goal and had one assist, don't really think he should be in the squad.

So, does this dispel that theory that Taylor was only included so we  could play 11 aside in training? If that was the case, Clarke would have called up Hickey/Doig/Considine etc.

I do wonder if this is the beginning of players like Gallagher, Taylor, Fleck being phased out. No disrespect to them, but they are the standard of player we've had for decades that we are rapidly moving away from. They are almost a call back to yesteryear. C.Paterson, Palmer, McBurnie et al are in the same bracket.
