Apparently 7.5% was put to them - below inflation but compared to some offers being made it's okay (where I work for instance we were given 2% šŸ™„).

In the current climate I'm not sure how much they expect to get. Down south nurses were apparently offered 4% - I can quite easily see a scenario where they end up accepting less than nurses up here rejected!

This is where the union end up with little sympathy, 7.5% is a good offer in the current conditionsĀ

The SG was no better than Royal Mail claiming 7.5%. Was nowhere near that for many.

Now public think nurses have turned down 7.5% and start to claim they are greedy.Ā

Governments across the world do it. Play ordinary folk off against each other to detract from your own failings. Rinse and repeatĀ

I suspect they might do some sort of deal which rolls an improved deal over to next year.Ā  So, 7.5% is the best we can do for this year but we can give you more next year - the tax rate increases in the budget are hypothecated for the NHS anyway.

That sounds reasonable.

What have they actually been offered then?

As do the unions. Ā

Takes two to tango. Unions are there to represent their members. If a tory came out with that response you'd he all over it.

Depends on grade etc. Absolutely not everyone has been offered 7.5%. That's the headline figure. In much the same way not everyone in the railways are being offered the numbers repeatedly mentioned by the UKGov.

This is the offer - which Iā€™m assuming has a blended average of 7.5%.Ā
Ā

Lower paid getting higher % rise on a sliding scale, up to band 8a where someone on Ā£53k gets 5%.Ā

Beyond that, the even higher paid roles have a capped rise of Ā£2,205.Ā

The simplification of the ā€˜headline figureā€™ is something I would criticise the government and the media for, and alsoĀ the unions to a lesser extent.Ā

The image chart on the BBC (that I posted) provides a detailed breakdown that lets people decide whether they think itā€™s a fair deal or not. I feel that the narrative often gets in the way of a fair assessment of those number.Ā
Ā

Itā€™s the same as you saying that most teachers are hell bent on demanding 10%, while youā€™d be happy to settled for 7.5%. Ā Itā€™s pie in the sky when you look at the other pay offers on the table for those at the mid-high end of the earning scales. Ā

Been confirmed that Terry Hall died of pancreatic cancer

It seems to be very common amongst celebrities

Smoking and Alcohol are the primary causes

That doesnā€™t surprise me ( re celebrities in general) . Their lifestyle is often erratic and heavily involved in socialising.Ā

I was surprised and saddened to hear of his passing . So young by todays life expectancy. You wonder why people like Pete Doherty have survived.Ā

Somehow I suspect that I had something to do with this - not making it, but Timmy Mallett digging it out his loft.

On Monday or Tuesday this week, a friend of mine posted a link on Facebook - well actually lots of friends did - but this one was a short interview by Timmy Mallett with Terry Hall when he was in the Colourfield.

On Tuesday evening, I was at Hemel Hempstead to watch Maidenhead play and Timmy Mallett was there as well.Ā  He's (one of) Maidenhead's celebrity fan - as well as Oxford United but that's another thingĀ  - but he at least does actually go to games like Hemel Hempstead away on a freezing Tuesday night the week before Christmas.Ā  He was also wearing a hat shaped like a Christmas tree but that's pretty standard from him.Ā  Ā Ā

I'm not going to pretend that he's any sort of pal but I am on nodding terms with him and have spoken to him on several occasions, mostly about the football.

Anyway, I went over and mentioned this to him, showed him the clip, and had a very interesting conversation about Terry Hall and he was very effusive in his praise and spoke very warmly about him.Ā  You could almost see memories coming back to him.

Anyway, I suspect the next day he went up the loft and dug it out.

Bit of a long listen - it's a two hour radio show - but if you've any spare time over the next few days it might be worth listening to.

It's not concluding negotiations though - negotiations continue.

Remember that the Unison and Unite staff have already settled and so it would be unfair on them if they didn't get their pay rise.

Shane MacGowan is another one. How the fuk he is still alive, is beyond me.

Good to hear that I thought he died about 5 years ago, Iā€™m away to YouTube to chuck a Pogues song on our Tunes thread. That news has genuinely cheered me up šŸ˜€

not at all. Do your research, Edinburgh are looking at these 15/20 minute city plans. Ā
Town planners can fuck off with their ideas. Ā Live and let liveā€¦. If people want to drive their cars around town let them.

first it was all about congestionā€¦ now itā€™s all about climate. Ā Just let people do what they want and let them be happy.
