thelonehutch
Cyprus and Georgia could be banana skins for us but equally so for Norway. 2nd place is very achievable 😁👍🏴

Who knows, Haaland rolls his ankle the weekend before and we’d wasted all that time worrying about him. Or he gets COVID Or Norway’s wingers aren’t as good as Man City’s We avoided Sweden, Turkey, Greece, Slovakia - it could’ve been much worse. (I meant vakia not venia) Yep, Haaland hasn't been able to boost Norway out of Pot 3. He's obviously a huge threat but they can be got at. Yes you’d rather have us than France or England. But would you rather play us or Wales, Austria, Finland or Israel? The view on us would be similar to the view on Georgia - an improving team coming up the rankings. I think it’s a case of could be worse could be better. There’s the possibility of taking something off Spain at home, other home games should be winnable. Big away games in Georgia and Norway, but can both be won. There are a few pot 3 teams that could be tricky so in that respect I suppose Norway should probably be no more threatening.

As well as Haaland Norway have Odegaard from Arsenal, who's a class act, Elyounoussi from Southampton, who'd easily make our squad, and Sorloth from Real Sociedad, who scores regularly in La Liga. Haaland might not enjoy the same level of service as he does at Man City but most of Norway's squad are still good enough to play in the top European leagues. I suppose he's due an off-day at some point though.

Georgia have gone up from D to C in the last few years and we know how to lose there. Cyprus - we really struggled against them. They're one of the better seeds too. So for anyone who doesn't like the Playoffs/Nations League - winning that could well save our bacon. Bring it on though. I'm going to go one away trip and I think Georgia might be the one! Perhaps, but looking elsewhere Ireland’s group looks significantly worse. The fact we have the play-offs guaranteed as a back up may take some pressure off of the Georgia and Cyprus games and allow us to play without any fear - we’re better than when we played both last time; neither are easy though. Norway’s results against sides of our level have been fairly average and Georgia/Cyprus probably have as much chance of taking points off them as they have with us. Saint4805
Maybe best to get one of the Norway games out of the way in June when Haaland is hopefully a bit rusty after having finished playing for City for the season. Wishful thinking perhaps.
Tartan Chris
More concerned with getting Georgia again! Tiblisi has messed up previous groups and they've got some really talented players and made euros play offs. That said Norway's away results aren't good either so that match could easily trip them up aswell. Perhaps pot 5 was the ticket this time, incredible group for Northern Ireland to get in considering how low they've dropped. Got a decent chance of second if they can get some confidence back. Wales will be pretty happy with what they've got aswell. At least have the play offs as insurance and given all 2nd place teams go through there won't be as much quality in it as for world cup. Haaland, Sorloth and Elyonoussi was front 3 and they had Odegaard and Sander Berge in midfield. Lost 2-1 to Slovenia....

With it being just 8 games points will be fewer anyway so 15 points should be the target.
breeks_mctavish
Think we are clear favourites for second place in that group. Haaland scores nearly every time for Norway yet they still often lose. No doubt he will score against us, but we’ve got several top players who will combine to cause no end of problems for Norway (and the other teams). Think we fall into the trap of thinking of ourselves as the team from a few years ago when we would definitely have struggled. We’re a better team now and our results are way better than Norway’s. AlfieMoon
12 points against Cyprus & Georgia. Get the better of Norway over 2 games. Should be enough. That’s the challenge that should be positioned to the squad to emphasise the importance of getting those games right. Anything taken from Spain at home is a bonus. Tough ask playing them away. When are fixtures out?

Tartan Chris
I thought they were scrapping the September international date to ease fixture congestion at start of season and going to play three games over two of the breaks. Or is that coming in for next qualification cycle?
