northernscum
Think people are just trying to create the headlines and discussion without any solid facts. An ambulance and police on scene is standard practice when someone dies in their house, irrespective of the cause. Yip. My Dad died of a heart attack in the house aged 58 a few years back and that is exactly the protocol which was adopted then. Ambulance called and then the paramedics called for the police as reason for death could not be immediately established. Sad that people are looking for more than there actually is to this sad event. redstevie007
Some evil shite being posted on social media, the jist of which is 'it's the SNP's fault', 'the SNP murdered Charles' etc. Despicable cretins. Kennedy was one of the good guys, whether you agreed with his views or not and that's how he should be remembered. Politics has lost a giant. fishcumnock
Anybody seen Carmichael? Would not surprise me in the slightest if he chose this sad occasion to be in the public eye again . A man that couldn't lace his bitz
exile
'One of the good guys' just about sums it up. He's gone tragically early and will be much missed.
Bzzzz
Agree with the positive sentiments here, shared a few beers with him in The Heb a few years back and what a thoroughy decent man. No many of them around Westminster...

kumnio
Always came across well, seemed like a decent guy. You kinda got the impression that he was uneasy enabling the Tory Party, but sadly they continued to do it. Theres photos of him on the Daily Mail website, and he looked absolutely awful only a few months back. No idea if it was drink related, or something else, but he certainly appears to have aged significantly very quickly.
Gala Tartan Army (Borders)
Better staying off social media on occasions like this, just enrages me what some people feel they can get away with saying. Some of the stuff directed at Andy Murray on 18 September was criminal (although don't think anything was ever charged). Kennedy a very decent guy and condolences to his family. As for Salmonds comments, he was highly complimentary of Kennedy in his quotes. It is the right wing press rather than Salmond who are trying to point score. Pathetic. Maq
Anyone who watched Charlie's appearances on the likes of This Week could clearly see his views of Better Together in the run up to the referendum and if he was still here he would admit it Thats not saying he wasnt a Unionist and neither was Salmond Quite http://derekbateman.co.uk/2015/06/02/rest-in-peace/

Rossy
Looks to me like Salmond's been led down the path by a journalist who wanted him to say something controversial. Was anyone else in politics asked about Kennedy's role in the referendum ? No. Only Salmond. And he's fallen for it, hook line and sinker. Stapes
Lembit Opik was also defending Salmond, and laying into those railing against him, saying they were using Kennedy's death for political gain. Stapes
he's fallen for it, hook line and sinker. Or he knows what the reaction will be and considers the political benefit of it for the Indy cause. The SNP, and especially Salmond, tend not to make daft mistakes. That's why they're sweeping the board at every election, eight years after they were first elected. I doubt if there's any benefit in trying to make political capital out of someone's death. (Not that I believe that Salmond was doing that). I dont think this is the time for him to be playing games. But from the latest I've seen i would give him the benefit of the doubt that he was simply asked one of many questions and answered it

HIGHTOWER 1314
Sad news indeed as charles kennedy was one of a few politicians that i could listen too outwith the snp.He was also a decent man who loved scotland.enough said.R.I.P CHARLIE KENNEDY
Haggis_trap
Irony is that those who are getting angry about Salmond giving his opinion are also trying to make a political point....Let them be. Storm in a tea cup.... As an SNP voter Charlie Kennedy was one of the few I was sad to de-seated. Genuine good guy.
