Can we get a phartcheck factcheck on this please?

There's been resignations/sacking in multiple countries in europe regarding using Sputnik before it got approval by the European medicines agency.

The row has been going on for weeks across central europe. Igor Matovic resigned after his premiership of Slovakia over the same issues. The coalition government had resignations as well.

Don't know much more than that.

Honest to god folk are going mad. Shops reopened , there was a queue outside Foot Locker at 7.30 am and at lunchtime the Primark queue must  have had about 300 people in it. Went from Argyle at all the way up Miller st . Outside bars and restaurants packed and its bloody freezing today.

This is what worries me.

A lot of the people I've seen in the tv pictures today, either queuing for shops or drinking in the beer gardens, are younger and are therefore less likely to be vaccinated. With increasing reports of people catching the virus despite being fully vaccinated, we really need the entire population to get vaccinated as quickly as possible to reduce the vectors of transmission.

The vast majority of the population have zero comprehension of two metre social distancing. Most people are closer than one metre, never mind two metres. So easing restrictions when only 20% of the Scottish adult population has been fully vaccinated with both doses should not be a signal for people to throw caution to the wind.

I understand the economic desire to open up but this is still very much a deadly virus we are dealing with.

Although the younger demographic are at a lower risk of death, they are still susceptible to long term health impacts. I suffered with M.E. after catching a virus in the late 90s and I still suffer some impacts of this over twenty years later

Demonising or harshly criticising people for going to the shops or getting a pint with their mates isn’t right.

But no one is doing that. The issue is about doing it as safely as possible and sticking to the guidance.

Pubs and restaurant owners certainly have no clue what 1m is and seem to think the different household rule only applies to households that don't know each other

Yeah I get that but I still sympathise with people who’ve been in lockdown for months on end. It’s not natural and we’ve all probably not stuck to the guidelines at some stage.

Och dont be so dramatic PIAK, I dont think anyone is ‘demonising’ or ‘harshly  criticising ’ anyone. You were in that Foot Locker queue werent you ? 😁

Its great to see folk out again, the centre is soul less without people. My post was merely to say that folk were going a bit mental having been cooped up inside   , outside bars would never normally have folk sitting outside in the temperature like yesterday and even at Christmas Primark didnt have a queue that long. I went a bit mental myself and bought a string of pearls in defiance of a year of leggings and jeans. I wore them proudly over my superdry hoodie on the way home 😁

Tartandon is just  understandably concerned . To be fair to Primark they take the customer intake seriously,  unlike some other shops, and a lot of the customers were leaving a proper distance in the queue.

Haha I struggle to get up at that time for work never mind a pair of shoes.

I should have been clearer in that my comment wasn’t specifically about any posts on here but in general.

I'd not worry too much about outside. It's inside where the vast vast majority of transmissions occur.

Or so it looks like i've not been doing any experiments myself.

This seems to be the case and I think ventilation is a huge issue which we really haven't taken seriously enough yet

We haven't been cooped up inside though!

Not in the absolute literal sense, but for the vast majority of the last year people have lived with severe restrictions to their normal lifestyle, and I am pretty sure over the winter months a lot of them have more or less been cooped up .

I am going to have to raise the bar with my posts now you are back Lamia . Most people just ignore me 😁

I would accept we have been "cooped up" in the wider sense. although judging by the activity on the roads I question how much some people have been restricted.

ventilation and air flow are a massive issue.

There is a USA study on air flow in offices looking at the connection between poor air circulation and transmission - sorry can't find the link. It showed a substantial increase in transmission in poorly ventilated spaces.

I think upcoming Hollyrood elections has a lot to do with the timing. But for that, I suspect the government would have have waited for the conclusion of this round of vaccinations before opening up.

As you say, socialising has always had significant risk - but the benefits for society/humanity outweigh those risks. Covid doesn't fundamentally change that equation. Especially for young people, who's health outcomes are more or less the same whether they are vaccinated or not. I don't think you will stop them from snogging each other, because they might catch a deadly disease.

If we choose to open up social places, most folk are going to socialise. Best accept that and plan accordingly, rather than stressing about something we can't reasonably control.

Indeed. Especially when the people who've given up most during the entirety of this (young people), are the ones who the "working from home" middle aged professionals & OAP's are having a pop at.

Little wonder some young people will give up with all the restrictions then. They're the ones least likely to be impacted health wise yet have been most impacted financially, yet are the ones being blamed?
