Get who can get us to qualification - who cares if they aren't local To be fair a big problem with Strachan living in England was that not only was he more au fait with players from the Championship than the SPL but he trusted them more too I cant see how bringing in a foreign manager with little knowledge of our players in general would make that any better - he would need a lot of time We are 2 central defenders and someone that can pick the right players/ team away from being alright

They have two games v Senegal next months. 4 points and think they make the world cup. I wouldn't say his record is incredible but if you want an international experienced manager he'd be in the running.
DizzyVizion
Why is Paul Lambert in contention? Could someone please explain because I really don't see him as a better manager than Strachan.

buckielugger
Why is Sam Allardyce a ridiculous suggestion (as said in opening post). He is highly experienced, and specialises, normally successfully, at managing fairly shite teams... And for those who don't realise he IS Scottish.... Doesn’t mean he identifies as being Scottish. Not that someone’s nationality matters to me. I’d be all for another foreign manager - if it was the right man. I wouldn’t want Allardyce because England sacked him because of his links to corruption. God knows what the guy has been up to. Maybe nothing, maybe loads. Why take the risk? chewie
If foreign I'd go for Michael O'Neill. if Scottish, probably Alex Neil avoid those touted as favourites. We need a fresh start.
buckielugger
I believe Allardyce is very proud of his Scottish heritage and still has family in Scotland. And at least he has TWO Scottish parents...beats many of the players we have picked. As for corruption, that was a sting, and the obvious thing about it was that he considered what he was doing was far from unusual and therefore likely to be commonplace in football...doesn't excuse it though. But nevertheless i simply want a manager who can get us to QUALIFY! I couldnt care less about minor transgressions in the past. Oh and never Moyes for me or Mackay. Gordon did his best but he wasnt tactically astute enough. Maybe an experienced central defender as manager will give us a better organised team and help prevent/reduce silly goals that we keep giving away. KirkieRobRoy
No need to say 'unemployed Scottish managers', most Scottish managers seem to be unemployed and most of them with good reason. Lambert and Moyes, amongst others, would just want to string some good results together, enough to repair their tattered club management reputations and jump ship when they get a good offer. Like Eck. Having said that, not sure who I do want. I'm open to persuasion.

No better than Strachan in whose opinion? Who would have though Michael O’Neill would have been such a success for Northern Ireland? A lot of people on here (most of whom probably don’t know the first thing about what makes a good manager) seem to be writing off managers based on the fact that they don’t like their personality or something. The fact is that Stachan has had his chance. It’s over, he’s gone. We should get behind whoever the SFA appoint regardless of who they have managed in the past or whether we like them as a person or not. Toepoke
I just hope the SFA take their time and consider all options. We have about a year to go before the next competitive game, plenty of time to try and get it right...
