Scotland Players In Action

Murphy was superb for Brighton today. He skipped past two players to put the ball in the box that lead to the first goal and had a hand in the second as well. Extremely impressed with Brighton today v Birmingham who's away record is pretty good Also Greer was very solid also. 18 games unbeaten and counting.

A lot of Scots in the Celtic team tonight and James Forrest the best performer, followed by Tierney.

Armstrong, Mackay Steven and Griffiths were terrible and looked out of their depth against a distinctly average Ajax side. From a Scotland perspective - really disappointing

Scott Allen's pass with his 1st and 2nd touch to put Griffiths through was breathtaking, when you watch the replay he picks up a terrific position in-between Ajax's midfield and defence then scans to see the option for a fraction of a second (3-4 seconds before he gets it) before he receives the ball and executes it unbelievably without looking again.

The vision and weight of pass was sensational, Xavi would have been proud, thats what makes the late error even more disappointing.

Also fed Forrest 3-4 times to take the full-back on, would love to see what he could do at Celtic if he gets a run of games, he's a different type to what the national team has in those areas, could be a real asset in time.

we need a proper number 10 for the next campaign be it allan, gauld or maybe bannan, fletcher isnt the type of player to run on to through balls though, cant remember him going clean through in any game since the hibs killie final almost 10 years ago.

Fletcher can supply them. I still fancy O'Halloran as the man to do the running. He's like lightning and strong too. I agree Allan's pass was fantastic. If he can bulk up and play every week he has a chance to be in the squad.

Fletcher can supply them.

none of them are goal scorers, they need to supply the striker, strikers have to score goals thats their job alongside any other side task, we cant go another campaign where our striker scores 1 goal against decent opposition or we are out again .

O'Halloran can play striker. More importantly, if Fletcher can play facing the goal i.e. as second striker or advance midfielder I think he'll score a lot more goals. He spent the whole campaign desperately trying to flick the ball to anyone in range or holding it up (and did a good job). If he could link up with someone who can really occupy defenders, he'll have a better chance of getting in the box and scoring.

Aye that bit of play by Allan was real quality. That lad now needs games consistently and we've got a real asset for next campaign

Darren Fletcher made BBC Garth Crooks's team of the weekend. Garth wrote:

'There's a calmness about Darren Fletcher's game these days but, then again, here is a player who, after a terrible illness, is lucky to be playing football at all.

Against West Ham the former Manchester United player and Scotland captain was the Baggies' steadying influence, particularly for his midfield partner Claudio Yacob, who is often unpredictable but now looks as steady as a rock too. Football teams can't go wrong with players like Darren Fletcher playing in them.'

Great engine, loyal and always turns up could be added to that. Still has a part to play for us IMO, albeit as squad player now.

Tierney an example of youth we should blood. Certain times 'fast tracking' players into the national squad is alright - When you are at rock bottom and need a mini clear out.

there isn't much coming through but we need to add about 3 younger players, going with the same squad of players is just going to return the same results.

Agree. I'd start with Gauld, Fraser and maybe Harper if he gets going this season with Brighton.

It is still the defence that needs strengthening.

Norwich back in for him when window opens up?

Probably. They'll get him cheaper than the 6 million they offered in the summer. For all the game was done when he came on he didn't do himself any favours. Gave the ball away constantly. Which is a trait of his when not playing regularly. Needs to move from Everton as he isn't suited to their style and will never be a regular again. Being the last sub to come on in a capital one cup match kinda confirms he won't be.
