Scotland Players January Transfer Rumours

You just conceded that Scottish players are under market value. As such they should be worth market value. You've solved it yourself.

But they're not...

Which is why the championship and lesser English clubs buy from Scotland instead of their own leagues a lot of the time.

This is flogging a dead horse now anyway but it's nothing new players leaving Scottish clubs to take a step up for what is perceived as a bargain price

The Scottish market is extremely undervalued and many bargains stolen by clubs in England.

I'd still reckon Armstrong should be at least £2-3m (maybe slightly more?).

If he were an equivalent English player the starting price would be 50-100% higher.

Yep agreed. But for a player to command a 3m fee he would have to be an exceptional prospect, like Ryan Gauld. Armstrong is very good but isn't quite that

I think Gauld was more of a prospect with exceptional potential that could value him at 4-5 times that amount in a few years. Then again he may not flourish.

Armstrong is more the finished article and a safer "bet".

How much did Celtic pay for Scott Brown for example - Armstrong could be as good if not better and more proven than Gauld IMO.

The point is that a transfer fee is determined as much by the position of the selling club as by the player.

Andy Robertson hasn't done anything at Hull City that he didn't do at Tannadice but is now apparently a £12m player rather a £3m one. If Celtic were offering, for example, Motherwell £1.5m for ANY player, even if he were the new Gauld or McFadden, they'd get ther man. United have made big money in the market recently and as such are able to drive a hard bargain.

If you were buying Gauld from Brechin City instead of Dundee Utd you'd get him for a set of tracksuits.

? Ridiculous. Probably think Ryan Jack is worth 3million same as Gauld....

Armstrong is uncapped and untested. Scottish clubs are selling clubs - 1.5 million is twice what Russell went for and not far off the fee Rangers paid Killie for Naismith. I think it's fair

Totally agree with Parklife here. You seem to have a really low opinion of Scottish football and Scottish players.

A player is worth whatever the buying club is willing to pay.

One year ago United would have accepted Celtic's offer in a heartbeat, but now United can hold out for a much better deal.

What changed?

First off all the player's form over the last 12 months has been very good (apart from a wee blip at the start of the season).

Secondly, the bank is no longer pulling the strings at United thanks to the sales of Robertson and Gauld.

And thirdly, IMO, because Robertson walked straight into the starting 11 of an EPL side, the market value of SPL players has increased.

Good move for Fletch. Was worried he'd become too attached to Man Utd and would just be happy to run down his contract there.

Can't believe the reaction from some of the West Ham fans online, plenty slagging Fletcher off and saying he's a bad signing. Fingers crossed Fletcher proves them wrong.

He's Scottish reason enough for the Eastenders.

Worth pointing out as well that just because X leaves Man Utd, that doesn't mean the end of the line for them.

John O'Shea is one of Sunderland's better players. Ben Foster's still a decent goalie for West Brom. And when he wasn't injured, Louis Saha was a good player for Everton.

There's every reason to believe Fletch can be a success at West Ham and stick it to the few narrow minded fans moaning about his signing. By the looks of things they were needing a defensive midfielder and Fletch should slot in nicely.

I'd give him an hour against either Northern Ireland or Gibraltar.

How many u21 caps did Hendrie get? How many times was he captain? Stark recently said Armstrong was best player he had in his u21 teams over his tenure of 6 or more years! £1.5m don't make me laugh

The amount of Under-21 caps a player gets doesn't necessarily mean they'll amount to anything.

A really pish player like Ross Perry got 16 caps for us at Under 21 level for example. Whilst Robert Snodgrass and James McArthur each only have 2 Under-21 caps.
