Maybe 30 years ago but now have people from all religions on the staff. There are vile sections of the support as we saw on Saturday night. But the club have moved forward slowly but surely imo. And for the better. But to the majority of both rangers and celtic supporters there will be the religion thing for a long long time I am afraid. The clubs have tried a lot over the years to get supporters to curb the songs. So my point is that rangers are not a vile institution 👉 Cancer is cancer, and when you want to get it all you take some of the good cells as well. The club, Rangers, I'm not interested in Celtic, might not actively encourage vandalism, sectarianism or general anti-social behaviour but they could do a lot, lot more to discourage it if they really wanted to. Morrisandmoo
How is this even a story? Rangers and their supporters hate Catholics. Tens of thousands of them sing about that fact at ibrox and everywhere else throughout Scotland whenever they get the chance. And nothing ever happens as a consequence. This is the situation. Obviously the board at celticl do as they removed them right away though.. on a similar note I have no problem with the Irish tricolour. I have more trouble seeing all the union jacks at ibrox. Wish both sets would fly more saltires. We are lucky we are able to express opinions in this country fairly freely. 👍

That is according to gerry hassan. Rangers pleaded with fans not to congregate well prior to this. As well you know. We can all lift quotes from somewhere. I prefer to stick to the actual statements from clubs.
jailender
Who organised the march to George Square? The Union Bears, who are officially sanctioned by the club. Don't tell me the club could not have stopped them doing this.
aaid
35 minutes ago, Rolling hIlls said: Like what aaid? This is the standard answer that rangers could do more. If u have the answer ??? In respect of this particular incident. How about this for a suggestion. Saturday's events weren't spontaneous, they were planned and organised. Perhaps not the vandalism and anti-social behaviour but it wouldn't take Mystic Meg to predict what would be the outcome of a mass gathering in George Square. The club knew this was being planned and they knew who was planning it. Maybe if they'd got the organisers in and made it clear that they would be held *personally* responsible for any events and what the sanctions would be - and I'm talking about closing their section and permanent stadium bans for the organisers then I suspect it wouldn't have gone ahead. Had they done that or something like it then I'd maybe say "what more could they have done". On the general point, how about dialling right down the connections with Northern Ireland, which BTW, are nothing to do with the traditions of the club and only came into place around 50 years after the club was founded. I think that would make a huge difference. Celtic could also do a lot more in this regard but at least that club was founded by Irish Catholic immigrants, our club's "connection" to Northern Ireland starts with Harland and Wolff opening a shipyard in Govan in 1912. We all know why they won't do either of the above, I don't believe its down to any anti-Catholic bigotry at the club - not now and not for a long time - amongst the decision makers but is purely down to naked commercialism and not wanting to upset the "customers". My biggest regret of the last decade is that there was an opportunity to reset the club off the field that was missed, unfortunately the club was acquired by a load of shysters - Whyte and then Green - who took the approach of appealing to the baser instincts in order to make a quick buck. My dad used to go to Ibrox regularly in the 50s and the 60s - my grandfather in the 20s and 30s. I used to go in the 80s, I remember my dad telling me that it was a lot worse at that time than when he went - he'd regularly go to Old Firm games at Parkhead and go in the Jungle and he was with a mixed group of Rangers and Celtic fans. I thought was mad and having me on - he wasn't. Attitudes like this should get better over the generations not worse.
