er yir macaroon
We beat Spain 2-1 in Spain and beat Poland 1-0 at the weekend. Seems we kept the ball off the Spanish!
Ormond
It’s good though because we’ll be able to call on these players when they finally come of age at 29-30.

Wales or Ireland (teams better than us) would pick boys this age rather than deadwood. I can’t foresee us ever picking a player younger than about 19 and “get the kids in” usually refers to picking an uncapped 26 year old. PASTA Mick
Two good results, which are even better when you consider a few key players were missing too.

wanderer
At this level we have always been pretty good at going toe-to-toe with a lot of the bigger nations (not consistent, but we do pretty well for ourselves) but the real dip in form seems to be once we get to U21 level, so its a case of getting a consistent conveyor belt of a good team going through from U17 to U21 level, and then eventually into the main team. ceudmilefailte
Last under 17 tourney we played we got a draw with Brazil was our under 17's against there under 15's or sonething like that. A lot of countries do that to get there younger players more competitive. If we had a full international against them they would probably send their under 21's

davew
Quote Brian McLaughlin has named his latest Scotland Under-17 squad for three International Challenge Matches as he steps up his preparations for the Euros Elite Round qualifying stage. The young Scots – featuring 14 Scottish FA JD Performance School participants – will travel to Spain on February 8 ahead of games against France, Poland and Spain. McLaughlin’s youngsters reached the Elite Round on the back of an unbeaten trip to Estonia – with wins over the hosts and Andorra alongside a draw with Denmark. The final qualification hurdle for a place in the England-based finals lies in wait in March, with Germany, hosts Greece and Norway providing the opposition. The group features Heart of Midlothian defender Chris Hamilton, who was one of a number of development players taken by the club to Valencia for their winter training break. His Tynecastle team-mates Anthony McDonald and Harry Cochrane are notable absentees but McLaughlin was happy to explain the absence of the Performance School graduate pair who have made such an impact in maroon this season. He said: “I’m looking forward to getting together with the players and staff. “It’s gives us a great chance to see where we are ahead of the Elite Round. “We’re playing three of the top ten teams in the world and we’re doing so without a couple of players because of their first-team commitments. “On this occasion I think that’s fantastic because it reflects their progress with Hearts and we enjoy a good relationship with the club. “Regardless of who is and isn’t going, we’ll look to play our way.” Fixtures Scotland v Poland, Saturday 10 February, kick-off 4pm (local time), Estadio La Linea, Cadiz Scotland v Spain, Tuesday 13 February, kick-off 5pm (local time), Marbella Football Center, Marbella Scotland v France, Thursday 15 February, kick-off 11am (local time), TBC Scotland Squad Goalkeepers Ryan Mullen (Celtic) Archie Mair (Aberdeen) PS Defenders Taylor Wilson (Hamilton) PS Nathan Patterson (Rangers) PS Chris Hamilton (Heart of Midlothian) PS Kane O’Connor (Hibernian) Jack Armer (Preston North End) Lewis Gordon (Watford) Midfielders Dean Campbell (Aberdeen) PS Ethan Erhahon (St Mirren) PS Billy Gilmour (Chelsea) PS Terry Taylor (Wolverhampton Wanderers) PS Ethan Ross (Aberdeen) PS Forwards Jamie Semple (Motherwell) PS Adedapo Mebude (Rangers) PS Connor McBride (Falkirk) PS Joshua McPake (Rangers) PS Aaron Pressley (Aston Villa) Aidan Fitzpatrick (Partick Thistle) Marc Leonard (Heart of Midlothian) PS PS - denotes Performance School player
davew
Quote Scotland’s Under-17s continued their build-up to the Euros Elite Round with a well-earned 2-1 International Challenge Match win over hosts Spain. Brian McLaughlin’s impressive side built on Saturday’s 1-0 defeat of Poland – ranked seventh in the world at this level – with an equally eye-catching triumph over a team tipped as one of the brightest in Europe. Aberdeen’s Dean Campbell – playing in midfield – scored twice from the penalty spot to see off the Spanish, but it was their patient possession of the ball that delighted the coaching staff. Performance Director Malky Mackay was amongst those in attendance at the Marbella Football Centre, while 14 of the squad are Scottish FA JD Performance School participants – the first batch to have come right through a programme that is producing real results after years of hard work behind the scenes from everyone involved. McLaughlin has often spoke of his admiration for the players at his disposal and highlighted their closeness as a group. He said: “We are obviously over here to test ourselves against the best in Poland, Spain and France. That’s why we took on these challenging games. “So to come out here and play possession football against Spain, on their own pitch, and win gives the boys a terrific boost going into the Elite Round. “It gives them added belief in the way they are playing.” Scotland round off the week with a game against France on Thursday, with a much-changed line-up expected. This is part of the build-up to the Euros Elite Round stage. The squad reached this point on the back of an unbeaten trip to Estonia – with wins over the hosts and Andorra alongside a draw with Denmark. The final qualification hurdle for a place in the England-based finals lies in wait in March, with Germany, hosts Greece and Norway providing the opposition. Scotland: Mair, Patterson, Gordon, O’Connor, Ross, Hamilton, Erhahon, Campbell, Semple, Leonard, Mebude. Subs: Mullen, Taylor, Wilson, Pressley, McBride, Armer, McPake, Fitzpatrick.
