andyD
Seen a claim that Wednesday are also in for Ross McCormack for 11.5m. Would be a good move for him, getting out of a poor fulham team that has already lost dembele, remains to be see if it comes off tho. er yir macaroon
Ritchie signs for Newcastle for £12millon. Benitez says "he has great ability and pace". Has he got the right player? Ritchie is one of the slowest international footballers I've ever seen.
andyD
Ritchie's not quick.. so.. yeah. Disappointing to see a player 'aspire' to drop down a league as well, given that he played 42 times for Bournemouth last season. For Fletcher, a good move probably. He'll be the main man there, probably score a hatfull and be at the right end of a league table for a change. Yes, if Fletcher gets games and goals it's good news, if uninspiring. He'd have been better at Marseille
andyD
Perhaps, yeah. But dropping down and getting regular, winning football seems to have done Bannan the world of good. If it can do the same for Fletcher, and he is finding the next every other week, then that'll be great news for us. Striker and confidence and all that. kmcca5
Thats Newcastle buying their way out of the Championship. Ritchie will be EPL next season no doubt.

Most of Weds attacks particularly in the second half originated from him.  One pleasing thing about watching him at Wembley was he rarely lost possession and completed most of his passes, those are key qualities at international level. Toepoke
Mad that Scotland's most expensive player earned the fee moving down the leagues!
Yorkie
Depressing to see Ryan Gauld being linked with a move to the Championship. Much rather see young Scots lads learn their trades overseas where technique is valued over the ability to run fast and kick the ball a long way. Hope Gauld sticks with it at Sporting. andyD
It's only rumoured to be a loan, to get some more competitive game time. It'd be good to get a barometer of how he's developing, since it's hard to judge in a lot of the Sporting B games. He's shifted position a bit, becoming more defensive, so whether he can do that job against more physical opposition would be interesting to see. His stand out attributes were threading balls into strikers feet or hitting shots way before the keeper was set. JECK
That is efin bollocs if Gauld goes to a championship club. To me it's says "unless you rip up that league son we're not wanting you back here"

His stand out attributes were threading balls into strikers feet or hitting shots way before the keeper was set. He seems to be doing ok in that role. Seems to have good timing to his tackling, and he still makes the passes and runs he used to, just from deeper and slightly less frequently. If he did go to Wednesday, it'd be interesting to see how they deployed him. Obviously it's had to picture him competing in a very physical league, so would he end up wide instead, perhaps. He's unlikely to play as a 2nd striker given they now have Gary Hooper, Steven Fletcher and Fernando Forestieri. Keiran Lee and Barry Bannan seem settled in midfield, so wide right seems a likely spot. I think he's better central than on the flank tho. As for whether going to the Championship would hurt his chances back at Sporting. It's not a case of them sending him out on loan, he's been asking to go on load for a while now. I think he was desperate to make a move to a more competitive league back in January and was gutted it didn't happen. If he's not going to play for Sporting's A team, then I think he feels he needs to play for someone's A team, especially as he's starting to see people go past him into the international squad. There's been a suggestion that he's been moved up from Sporting B to Sporting A with the start of this season tho, so this could all just be paper talk, based on the fact that Wednesday have a Portugese manager and Gauld was seen to be unhappy. 2+2=47 and all that. If he's not in the manager's plans as Sporting, it makes sense to move, he'll be 21 this year, with 120 competitive appearances to his name. He's not a kid anymore and he does need to be playing. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
ceudmilefailte
Middlesbrough have signed defender Jordan McGhee on a season-long loan from Hearts. Strange- thought the loan system worked the other way!

Reports he will be going into their development squad rather than the first team (probably just a extended trial with a fee agreed for the end of the season if he impresses)
