thewelk
The irony is that it's these guys who are enabling him to maintainin his standard of living by working in the kitchen of his favourite restaurants and picking the organic vegetables that he likes from waitrose. antidote
You could rewrite that headline to: Moronic tory government threatens our standard of living.
Orraloon
you'll be happy putting up a few in your spare room i take it I might be getting you mixed up with somebody else, but are you not a migrant? Possibly not the "marauding" variety though?
Ally Bongo
You could rewrite that headline to: Moronic tory government threatens our standard of living. Alternatively in a few years it will be "Marauding Poor threaten our standard of living"
Lamia
Rubbish reply. The sad thing is that Hammonds only saying what a lot of politicians, the media and general public think. The members of the general public that think it are those who just swallow the right wing propaganda.
Flora MaDonald
I'd like to see Hammond make it over 2 continents with no money and relying on his wits / nerve / intelligence. That qûnt couldn't make it oot the door of his 'Gentleman's Club'.
hauniscots
At least the guys being honest. Many people have differing views on what they wish to happen to the migrants and word it in different ways, this is his view and he won't be the only one. Charlie Endell
They were interviewing Syrian refugees in Kos on BBC News 24 - they're basically stuck there at the moment living in tents beside a rubbish tip - tragic situation.
Scunnered
It's a horrible, but not unexpected point of view expressed from Hammond. Bit of a rubbish thread title though, it contains a massive assumption that a public figure wouldn't be expressing a similar opinion in an independent Scotland... Which frankly is impossible to believe.

Parklife
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/aug/11/ministers-halt-benefits-young-workers-migrant-pledge-eu Now the Tory government are considering depriving 18-22 year olds of all in work benefits, in order to comply with their manifesto pledge to stop migrants receiving them for the 1st 4 years they are in the uK. They've created an economy where a huge proportion of jobs are so low paid that folk rely on benefits to get by. Yet now they are thinking about depriving the young of these benefits.
