Big Well Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 This looks the most doable for me / us, but is it safe to assume Moscow for the purpose of booking flights or is it likely to be played 3 days on a camel away from the capital, what’s the most likely scenario and when will we officially find out ?

No guarantees whatsoever, last 2 qualifiers played in Sochi and Kaliningrad.
argylescribes Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 Russia seem to move around for every game, so cannot commit until they announce the stadium. St Petersburg would be good!
Shotts56 Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Bear in mind Russia is BIG. No idea if they ever play in Vladivostok, but if they do, that’s seven days on a train from Moscow 😳
Scotland Ever More Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Is there not some rule that says they have to confirm the venue 4(?) months before the game?
Grim Jim Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 The Russians seemed very considerate in their Nations League games in picking locations closest to Sweden & Turkey who they were playing.
Tartan_McCole Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Was in St Petersburg for the Celtic game in February. Definitely a better city than Moscow for having a carry on.
mwng Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 My mate lives in st Petersburg and raves about it. Fingers crossed it’s there.
jackhayes17 Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Booked outbound flights to Moscow before realising this, if they follow suit from Nations League then cheap internal flight to St Petersburg from Moscow won't be too much of a problem.
DoonTheSlope Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 With a bit of luck it’ll be in St Petersburg then you’ll get in visa free via ferry from Helsinki or Tallinn for 72 hours

I want to see both places but I then need to get to Turkey on 12th, 2 days after the game. I cant book anything yet, is it def 7th Dec the venue is announced ?

I've always wanted to see Moscow. Going to wait until venue is confirmed though rather than take a gamble.
The Laud Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 I think only the first two games venues must be named by the 7th december, dont know about the rest.

Still probably be better than flying! Hoping its in St Petersburg could do a night in Tallinn on way home
McToot Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 Having a wee look at their previous fixtures last night. Prior to NL, in the last 3 campaigns they played 12/15 in Moscow. The others were 2 in St Petersburg and 1 in Kazan. They obviously didn’t have to qualify for 2018 and now have better stadiums dotted around the country.
Squirrelhumper Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 Many do you think we'll take to this? I've not looked forward to a trip as much in years. Hope it's either Moscow or SP though.

If we're looking in contention to qualify (and you'd imagine that it will between us and Russia for second) then I'd guess about 4-5k which would be a massive support considering Russia isn't the easiest to get to. Think I've now decided that this will be my only away this campaign though.
mwng Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 Said it’s either Saransk, Nizhny, Novgorod or Volgograd in the paper today. It was the record so it might be bullshit.

Looking like that for me, maybe do another if Killie don't make Europe. Following a club side every week isn't cheap and this isn't a season I'm willing to sacrifice Killie games for a Scotland trip.
Lawnmower Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 Also in the sun today. Saransk, Nizhny, Novgorod or Volgograd
Wallace1953 Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 Aye, if you can believe the papers today the head of the Russian fa says he wishes to move games around the country to Nizhny Novograd, Saransk, and Volgograd only hosting Belgium in Moscow. Probably like most TA really hoping for St Petersburg but as the beautiful St Petersburg is hosting some group and quarterfinal games in 2020 then hosting qualifiers maybe a long shot??? Volgograd could be favourite of the other 3 being further south with milder weather. All 3 could be a challenge for travel so let us all hope it will be St Petersburg.....

Think Volgograd looks a cracking place to visit seeing it on tv in the WC
