Sponge Bob Tartan pants
All the six pointer games so to speak were all disappointments. When did we last win a crucial game than would mean qualification or progress in a competition ???

daddybuc16
Costa rica defeat in italia 90. Was only 8 but felt like the end of the world. The penalty miss against england in euro 96. Thinking we will gub morrocco in 98 and the hammering we took that night. Belgium 2000, the dutch in 2003 and italy 2007. The worst is probably that feeling after the chec rep game at hampden. All the latter games i had felt angry or dissapointed. After that game i felt nothing, like i didn't care anymore.

I know Mackie was sh1te but he still counts as a player. Cardiff didn't bother me. I just wanted avril gone. Short term pain and all that. aaid
For a certain generation has to be Peru and Iran Some folk still mentally scarred from that... I'm in that camp. The disappointment of Argentina dwarfs anything since. I know there's been a certain level of revisionism around Argentina in the last few years, that it wasn't as bad as it was made out in comparison to how later campaigns turned out. What people have to remember is the level of expectations that we went into the finals with. People - and I include my 13 year old self in that - genuinely thought we could win it. I recall a lot of people saying how great it was we had Holland in the group - at that time probably considered the best team on the world - as that meant we couldn't face them again until the final. People who aren't old enough to remember Argentina should realise that for years, Argentina wasn't mentioned, people just didn't talk about it. kumnio
Too many to mention them all sadly. Scotland 2-2 Belgium, collapsed massively Scotland 1-2 Italy, it's all over Scotland 0-1 Belarus, I didn't go to Slovenia as I was huffing Scotland 2-3 Spain, so close, but so far Macedonia 1-0 Scotland, just dreadful Leveins entire reign of horror God it's great supporting us. I love a good Levein kicking but wasn't Burley in charge for Macedonia away? His first game competitive game.

Robroysboy
The last loss in Cardiff was a massive low for me, Cardiff was a kick in the teeth, Steven Fletcher had a perfectly good goal chopped off. The goal didn't stand, the guys held up the SOS banner in brussels and we got our man. Funny old game, thank goodness the goal did not stand as our agony may have been prolonged. Good postAnother thing probably worth mentioning how intertwined the national team were with the nations psyche back then - even allowing for the hype in 78 Throughout the 70s nobody ever heard of folk supporting Ireland / England etc or boycotting in favour of club sides etc There was a bit of drama I believe with respect to treatment of tic players and fans tho
saintsparky
Morocco in 1998 was a horrible game to be at. Was in the Moroccan end behind an entire row of drums, that never stopped the whole 90 minutes. Also Prague 99 when we were 2-0 up and lost 3-2, was particularly hard to take. The support that night was fantastic, and never deserved to see their team lose. Toepoke
Watched highlights of the Iran game recently, the ref was shocking. Blatant foul in the box and he gave us an indirect free kick!
Auchinyell Sox Change
In many ways a worse result ; as at least Peru were a decent team ; just not researched Iran were mince , we managed to achieve the same level
braveheart1962
France 98 the game against Morocco in saint etienne . Really thought we would win with ease , how wrong we all were. So deflated about the result decided to drive home straight after the game. Believe me Saint etienne to London is a long drive.
Gala Tartan Army (Borders)
2-2 vs Belgium in 2000. That was a horrible day. Czechs at home under Levein was a sickener as well.
