Gordon Brown

The Wings petition is a piss take. it is a petition telling Brown to politely f*** off. would be nice to reach 100K signatories on that one before brown manages it on his one. that would surely make the news?

Im not talking about the Wings one? :wink2: I think I may have been getting confused with the petition about a re-vote though.

The snp must go all out to destroy the remaining credibility of Westminster and make sure Gordon Brown's reputation lies in tartan tatters.

I think it's best to let both Westminster and Gordon Brown do it themselves, they seem to be making a pretty thorough job of it :wink2:

Most definitely. The worst thing the SNP can do now is in any way politically obscure Westminster, Brown, Cameron, et al. Stand back now and let them get on with it...

I haven't really followed this closely but has Brown given a proper, vaguely challenging interview on the subject yet?

The guy seems to be untouchable.

yeah, totally unchallenged by anyone in the media on why people should sign a petition to force his own parties leader to honour a vow

totally unchallenged

As ex-Whitfield said "un believable" (although tbh, I prefer unbefuckinlievable")

Will the Kingdom's electorate call him on this next May, if not before? Three of Fife's four WM MP's are Labour. Any chance that the support for three (of five) Fife MSP's will prevail and lead Fife to follow the example set by those over the Tay Bridge?

Much as I like it to happen, I doubt the citizens of Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath will take him to task over all of this. One of the safest Labour seats in the country and ex-mining communities who are too dyed in the wool Labour.

Would love to be proven wrong by Fife TAMBers who may be more in the know?

but what's an ex mining community got to do with labour anymore

Habit and not much else. The end could be swift though when promises are broken and Labour look to be losing in England.

what promises

we don't even know what they are

they could pretty much provide anything and say they have kept the vow

i more can't understand why any of these folk would vote for something that hasn't represented them since 1997

habit maybe as you say, they are banking on habit, hopefully/surely won't be enough

Unlikely. The Holyrood by-election of earlier in the year was an opportunity for the SNP to steal the Cowdenbeath seat, but they didn't. If you can't create an upset at a by-election, my advice would be look elsewhere for your Portillo moment.

It will be interesting to see whether the public will accept the line of 'we never actually said that when we made the vow'. We all know that they actually committed to nothing specific at all. Just a timetable. But there is an 'understanding' that most people have as to what was meant by this and it is more than next to nothing.

I think you have to go further back than even 1997. 1992 was the last Labour manifesto that was in any socialist. In terms of habit that is a 22 year problem. We need a press that is prepared to stop and question Labour as to why they are going to follow Tory spending pledges and then to tell the public what this means.

Don't try to hard to understand, that way madness lies. Educating the populace is the way forward. The referendum has started this, many many people have had their eyes opened and are not shuffling back in the shadows.

That would be brilliant to see him fall. Do you know if they're legally obliged to stand on the stage for the declaration of the votes? I think if they're not and the SNP have emerged ahead, Brown would be nowhere to be seen. So we wouldn't get our moment.
