He does have a checquered history. He was photographed lying in a casino covered in £50 notes which he got lambasted for a fair few years ago. He got called up for us for a friendly V Estonia and withdrew from the squad injured early in 2013 and did not get another call-up for a year. That is odd in itself. Tartan Chris
If we're talking about with McTominany picking players with tenuous links Bardsley is surely near the top of that list? He's on the bench for Burnley btw. I'm sure the world will keep on spinning if he dosen't get called up, he's not that good.

It’s an absolute no brainier for mccleish to call up caulker. We’re hardly brimming over with cb talent. Caulker & McKenna new cb partnership sounds good to me. They’re both young, physically strong over 6ft 2 & talented players.

The guy is English and has played for England. That would be a classic case of someone coming to us because he hasn’t proved good enough for England. Once you’ve played for a country (even in a friendly) that should be it for me. I know that’s not the rule but I believe it should be. I don’t want England’s (or any other country for that matter) sloppy seconds.
borojock
My thoughts on squad for next 2 years rather than the 2 games. With a new manager, coaching staff and changing of the guard with some of the older players leaving us and newer ones coming in i think its time to try a new formation, weve tried 4-2-3-1 and its various forms for a long time with no success so lets try something brand new. With 2 friendlies now and 3 or 4 at the end of the season these 5 or 6 games are the perfect time to bed it in. I would go for a formation of below i think its the best way to deal with weak center backs, tierney/robertson issues and the lack of right backs GK CB CB CB RWB CM CM LWB AM AM ST Squad for next 2 years would be GK - Gordon, Marshall, Archer CB - Martin, Mulgrew, Berra, Tierney, Hanley, Lindsay RWB - Fraser, Paterson CM - McDonald, MacArthur, McTominay, McGinn LWB - Robertson, Douglas AM - Armstrong, Cairney, Ritchie, Phillips ST - Griffiths, McBurnie, Martin (this one due to lack of alternatives) Please feel free to rip it to shreds but if you do it would be great to hear what you would do different in terms of tactics or players

Trying to fit players into a formation by playing them out of position gets right on my thrupenny bits. I’d be amazed if there weren’t more Rangers players in the squad than you’ve went with (not right away possibly). I think Ross McCrorie will break into the squad eventually and Docherty may get a call up if he keeps developing. Ryan Jack might even get back in when he’s fit although as an emergency only I would think. As long as McLeish goes with form players who are starting every week for their clubs then I am pretty optimistic for this campaign.

Tartan Chris
Caulker has barely played last four years and has had major off the field issues. Think you need to wait a year or two before he's more stable in his life before even considering a call up and I'd still have major doubts. He's played three games for Dundee. He looks like someone going through the motions, he seems to have the component parts to be a very good defender, but he doesnt seem capable of combining them. Martin should not be considered. Third striker should be Cummings, McKenna and Soutar in CB pool.

Scotsdeutsch
Berra’s distribution is actually embarrassing...it’s amateur level. He loves an aimless hoof up the park does big Christophe. He’s a half decent cb who scores a lot with his head & that’s it. In an ideal world he’s a reserve/squad player definetly not at first team standards at international level. I find that pointless if true, he’s obviously a good player suffering a lack of international opportunities due to the amount of left backs we have but it’s wasting a squad place in my opinion. Its hard enough to facilitate Tierney and Robertson and they’re both much better than Douglas.
