alba buddy Posted May 20, 2015 Share Posted May 20, 2015 when souness got rid of too many experienced players all at the same time Liverpool have never been the team they once were (sad to say) they have had the odd decent season but nothing sustainable like the 70s and 80s players were always replaced with equal or better ability but this hasn't happened in the last 25yrs sterling is a good player but not as good as he thinks. He has talent but he is very over rated, there are games where he goes missing completely and to play at the top and for the best teams you have to be consistently good. They had their time at the top in the 70's and 80's whereby they could have first pick of the best players (Barnes, Beardsley, etc.), but nowadays they're behind Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City and Man Utd in the pecking order. Until that changes, I don't think Liverpool will be able to attract or retain the very best players. Sterling obviously thinks that he needs to move elsewhere in order to have a chance of winning the EPL and playing regular CL football, and I wouldn't disagree with him about that. I don't think Liverpool will win the league or finish in the top four next season. Whether Sterling is good enough to get a regular game at the likes of Man City and Chelsea, I'm not sure, but that's something he will have to consider before forcing through a move. Sterling might be an aggravating cocky little scrote but if it was your son at Liverpool and not overly fussed with the place and Man city came along and said "fancy 200k a week ?" for the next five years and champions league football instead of 100k and scrapping for 5th with spurs for the next 5 years, I think I know what youd say !! For me there is a difference between being offered a big wage and holding a club to ransom for a big wage. If he was not worried about the money then accepting the offer or even trying for a wee bit more would have been fine but it seems he expects to be paid the same if not more than senior more experienced players.
