irnbruman
Well its the Stevie G wankfest here in Englandshire this week, Last game at Anfield. Never heard a more miserable boring on TV . Fawning over this ##### down here - I think he's an overrated diving horrible git. Laughed my arse off when he got sent off against man utd after a minute on the pitch. He's had his match winning moments - but I think he's not a team player at all - been a hinderance to Liverpool at times and England with other players feeling they had to give him the ball rather than play their own game. Good riddance.

Grantyboy1983
Never been a fan of Stevie G myself, laughed like fook at the capitulation in the league last season. Still laugh thinking about the 'slip' speech and subsequent falling of arse against Chelsea.
redstevie007
Why the blind hatred of a man who's been a great player for the one club he's played for? European Cup, UEFA Cup, FA Cup, League Cup. He's won everything except the League title his career deserves. He single handedly dragged wins out of his team on countless occasions. On purely footballing grounds he deserves his 'great' status in the English game and amongst Liverpool fans (although I'd dispute placing him above guys like Dalglish, Souness and Rush in the all-time great Liverpool player list). It's call bitter jealousy, if he was Scottish the same people would having their own wankfest. If we could only find someone half as good as Gerrard I'd be over the moon. 21 goals from midfield for his country and he gets slated by our fans when we can't even find a striker who can score that many. ZoltanBuchan
Mixed feelings about Gerrard. A genuinely world class player for five or six seasons, but also a vicious thug whose multiple two-footed lunges - such as the one which could have ended Gary Naysmith's career - somehow always went unpunished. World class is a stretch. Maybe for one season if he was lucky. So so over rated. Good player at his best but not what they are making him out to be. ParisInAKilt
Don't know if he was ever world class. His style of play definitely suited the epl and Liverpool but not sure how successful he would have been abroad. What he did at Liverpool for a couple of seasons was remarkable. Average for England. RenfrewBlue
Definitely not world class. He couldn't lace the true greats boots. Good player and a superb athlete who always gives his all. I don't think he is the superstar thay the media make out but both he and Shearer have sainted positions for some strange reason. Not as much of a thug as some are saying but he is a diving and I find it hard to sympathise with him as he won't acknowledge his own cheating. Replay
Not a fan of Liverpool, but Gerrard's performance in the Champions league final against AC Milan was just incredible. That can't be denied.

Well said mate. He has made mistakes in his career but who hasn't? A lot of the abuse he gets comes across as jealousy IMO. I don't think Gerrard himself would place himself above those players mentioned either. A 'Great' as far as Liverpool in concerned. Not so much with England. Depends how you define it I suppose. At his peak would/did Europes top clubs chase his signature? I can only ever mind him being linked with Chelsea. That probably doesn't define anything as they throw ridiculous Sums at utter dross.

Rossy
The BBC website has him voted as Liverpool's greatest ever player.....above the likes of Dalglish, Rush etc. It must have been the under 30's voting, because Gerrard couldn't lace Dalglish's boots. He's the typical sky generation player, hyped up beyond belief into making people believe that he's one of the greatest ever. He isn't. A very good player, undoubtedly. But never world class, unlike Dalglish, Rush and even Souness.

Seen a documentary on him and as he walked past a portrait of Dalglish he said 'there's the best Liverpool player of all time' or words to that effect. Davied14
There is a thread on another forum I go on asking "How do you hope Gerrard finishes his last game at Anfield?" and one charming customer has posted "Like Marc Vivien-Foe the c*nt."
