Interesting article on the state broadcasters website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-28853221

Whether its rising or not it is still depressing, 70 years after the liberationof the death camps, to see people being singled out and murdered because of their ethnic/religious background. I'm not entirely sure why Pickles thinks education will solve everything certainly the Holocaust/Nazis gets extensive coverage in schools. Personally I would have thought a change of Israeli policy viz a viz the Palestinians would have had more of an impact.

Where is all this anti semitism in the UK and who is it coming from ?

Sure it's always been there from the BNP/NF nutters but who else ?

There has certainly been an increase in anti Israeli sentiment justifiably but thats not the same thing

Just another piece of piss to take everyone's eye off the ball

Not sure where it's coming from, although Stewart Lee who lives nearby blames the media exposure of UKIP - as a consequence extreme views have become more "acceptable" in the mainstream.

Speaking to Glasgow Jews there is no feeling of raised or even existing anti semitism. It may be different in countries with large groups of Orthodox Jews but very few here.

This sounds suspiciously like Teresa May trying to create a bogeyman to justify more surveillance and government snooping. There is understandably quite a bit of antipathy towards Israel at the moment due to their treatment of Palestinians but I don't think there can be many Jewish people who are living in fear in the UK nowadays. The question that should be asked is "Why is she stirring up fear"? What is her real motive?

Nail on head with your first sentence. Her real motives? Who knows. This woman is potentially our next Prime Minister - now that's a scary thought.

Surely, when Cameron is backing the letter sent to Imams asking them to justify their religion in terms of Britishness, supposedly to avoid a backlash against them, it is only logical for him to now do the same to Rabbis.

Its interesting how the tragic events in Paris seem to have been hijacked by a certain lobby, Bibi seems to be using it as a way to get Jews to flee to Israel, presumably to help bolster numbers, bring in foreign exchange, and reinforce the persecution complex.

Or, am I being cynical?.....

Well Palestine was almost voted a nation(in December) and France voted for it despite Bibi's protestation it would be a "grave mistake" , and with the addition of Palestine into the international court set-up they could have recourse to charging Israel with war-crimes.

So certain "narratives" are more useful than others.

I was wondering this, wasn't aware of any antisemitism, where's this coming from?

Already answered this earlier in the thread.

Swastika graffiti has been daubed in Britain's most visible Jewish area (Stamford Hill) including a primary school. Combined with a siege at a Jewish supermarket in Paris which is only a couple of hours away from Stamford Hill on the train and I can see why the Jewish community in Britain would be getting twitchy.

Yeah it's unfortunate.

I'd hope we'd all pressure our government and our allies to stop aiding terrorists.

Israel is treating ISIS in their hospitals. Mainly because they are privateers for them, with folk travelling freely through the turkish border (a NATO ally of ours) and getting treatment there too.

"Replying to a question by i24News on whether Israel has given medical assistance to members of al-Nusra and Daesh (the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State (ISIS), a Israeli military spokesman's office said: "In the past two years the Israel Defence Forces have been engaged in humanitarian, life-saving aid to wounded Syrians, irrespective of their identity."

Exclusive: Israel Is Tending to Wounded Syrian Rebels

.

In the past three months, battle-hardened Syrian rebels have transported scores of wounded Syrians across a cease-fire line that has separated Israel from Syria since 1974, according to a 15-page report by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the work of the U.N. Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF). Once in Israel, they receive medical treatment in a field clinic before being sent back to Syria, where, presumably, some will return to carry on the fight.

"The Syrian opposition is willing to give up claims to the Golan Heights in return for cash and Israeli military aid against President Bashar Assad, a top opposition official told Al Arab newspaper, according to a report in Al Alam.

***

The Western-backed militant groups want Israel to enforce a no-fly zone over parts of southern Syria to protect rebel bases from air strikes by Assad’s forces, according to the report."

"A Free Syrian Army commander, arrested last month by the Islamist militia Al-Nusra Front, told his captors he collaborated with Israel in return for medical and military support, in a video released this week.

In a video uploaded to YouTube Monday … Sharif As-Safouri, the commander of the Free Syrian Army’s Al-Haramein Battalion, admitted to having entered Israel five times to meet with Israeli officers who later provided him with Soviet anti-tank weapons and light arms. Safouri was abducted by the al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Nusra Front in the Quneitra area, near the Israeli border, on July 22.

“The [opposition] factions would receive support and send the injured in [to Israel] on condition that the Israeli fence area is secured. No person was allowed to come near the fence without prior coordination with Israel authorities,” Safouri said in the video."

There is a long-established and highly vocal lobby which refuses to differentiate between criticism of Israeli policy and antisemitism. They represent a major part of the problem.

Nail on head with your first sentence. Her real motives? Who knows. This woman is potentially our next Prime Minister - now that's a scary thought.

She could be. Scary thought right enough, but, when you look at the alternatives - Osborne, Johnson etc - she's actually the best bet! The other possibilities are so terrifying that May would almost seem acceptable! Kind of reminds me of when Levein got the Scotland job....

There's an article in today's (perhaps yesterday's) The National saying that (some) Jews in Scotland were frightened and were wanting to leave.
