If it were up to you, there would only be about five players named in the squad and we'd have to forfeit the game ! Your standards are absurdly high. Be more realistic.

We have to work with what we have available, and Dominic Hyam is a good suggestion for a future player.

If you know of a better player why not suggest one ?

Sorry but there is an awful lot of people thinking players will improve after there mid 20s 99% don't.

Anyway Barrie Mckay.

Sorry missed Michael being called up.

In the main squad would not have minded to see how Hyam would get on.

O'donnells days are gone Patterson, Hickey and Ralston have seen to that and take into account Ramsey, Ashby and Devine coming through.

Absolutely flabbergasting how many caps O’Donnell won

Nearly 27 and less than 200 Pro games. I hope we can  do better.

We dont really have better alternatives. Guys who perform well in the championship are easily good enough for our squad. Thats the reality. If we had a bunch of 21/22 year old centre backs playing regulary at epl clubs then fair enough but we dont.

Guys like david weir and colin hendry didnt really start their international career until their late 20s. Liam cooper was the same.

Centre backs a little different than other positions. Players will continue to improve slightly even after the age of 24/25. Other positions that doesnt usually happen as much. If you look at quite alot of centre backs in the epl, a fair amount them spent their early/mid twenties playing championship or a lesser european league like the spl, belgian league etc.

Guys like cathcart, duffy, mckenna, ashley williams, conor coady.

Ashley william didnt become an epl regular til he was 27/28.

Tyrone mings didnt become an epl regular til he was 25/26.

Its a position that relies on experience and alot of guys dont really hit their best until early thirties. I would probably say david weir was at his best in his mid thirties. Thats when he was a centre back for everton who were doing reasonably well under moyes and then he must of been 36/37 when he helped rangers(a team built on defence) get to the europa league final and helped us beat france twice.

Not saying dom hyam will neccesarily emulate those guys listed but writing him off at 26 is unfair considering his position. Theres a good chance he goes up with blackburn this season and if hes one of main components of that success then why wouldnt he good enough for our squad?

We aint france or spain.

Rangers u19 currently 2 nil up at halftime against Napoli u19s.

Outplaying them and RB Harkness has been good. 2 Assists so far.

Ure has scored one and hit the bar.

Technically competing well at this level. Outplaying Napoli and unlucky not to atleast draw with Ajax last week.

Lovelace, McAussland, Niso and Lindsay are the non Scots. So 7 Scots competing Technically against that level of opponent is very good.

Devine, Lowry and King would also still be eligible to play, if made available for it.

Some good news and bad news in the Norwich City v Bristol City game.

The bad news is Norwich, featuring Grant Hanley in defence, have just conceded. 👎

The good news is the goal was scored by Tommy Conway. 👍

The boy is on fire at the moment - never mind the U21s, he should be in the senior squad!

Looking around, it looks like your pretty much spot on.

I'm still living in the years between MacNeil, McQueen, Greig, McLeish and Gough.

Not sure when defending became so experience orientated but even those guys despite being capped at an early age all improved with time.

Its pretty clear that conway could turn into the goalscorer we need. I dont remember the last time we had a 20 year old striker scoring this many goals in the championship. Another 3 or 4 goals in the next 2 months and he would have to be picked for the main squad. He might have a big decision to make soon on wether he wants accept a call up from our main squad or hold out hopes of maybe playing for england one day. Obviously its clear for us that scotland should be his choice but the lad is born and bred english and only qualifies through his grandad. Hes gonna have to make a career defining choice pretty soon because england will probably have eyes on him if he keeps this up.

O'Donnel gets a hard time, we basically had no options at right back and he showed up when asked. Played his heart out and put in some very good performances. He had some bad games but who hasn't for Scotland. He deserved his caps and you could tell he would do anything to play for us. Unlike guys like Fraser etc.

Rhodes was young and scoring a lot of goals at that level and barley got a chance.

Rhodes was 22 when he started scoring goals in the championship. He did score 40 goals at league1 when he was 21 which was impressive tbf. Conways only just turned 20 and can clearly cut it at championship level already.

Rhodes should really have been given more chances with us and i think most of us expected him to move up to the epl and do well there but it never seemed to happen for him unfortunately.

Conway might go the same way as rhodes but hes certainly got a better chance at making it at a high level than any of our other young strikers. If he carrys on scoring at this rate then he will be bought in january by an epl club.

Lets hope hes the real deal because we need a goalscorer.

He also spent a lot of time with an invisible James Forrest in front of him giving him fck all of an option for an out ball.

The only really bad one I remember was v the Czechs in the Euros.  Other than that there was no need for the guy to get the level of abuse he did as he was no worse than most of the rest of them.

And the Czech Republic goal people slate him for not closing down the cross quick enough was not even his flank. The cross should have been closed down by Robertson but he was awol. Never mind that though the fans have their scapegoat.

If anything, the fact that SOD didn't have the ability but still gave 110% always endeared him to me as a player. Just a guy giving his all for the national team. Much better than players of the past who've had the ability but turned up when they felt like it.

His performances against England in the Euros and against Austria away were both great and it's a shame he couldn't put away either of the chances he got in those games.

Goal for Ryan Gauld this morning.

Really wish he hadn't gone to the MLS, don't think it has done his career much good.

From reading his interviews when he signed for Vancouver and from looking at his time there and in Portugal, he seems to want to be at a team where he's the star player and the team is built around him and I don't think he'd have had that elsewhere even though he definitely has ability.
