What we are witnessing is the death of the two main political parties because of their desire for power (signposts and weathercocks) It has been happening slowly over time but sooner or later the straw will break the camel's back By trying to appeal to both leavers and remainers in their desperation for votes we have the situation we are in now Neither has the balls to offer the real and only alternatives which is leave without a deal or remain Any "deal" is not anywhere as good as being in the EU which makes May's position a farce Unless any of the two of them faces up to reality sharpish and becomes honest then the UK is going to collapse quite quickly A second referendum regardless of the outcome is going to be disastrous Nobody knows what leaving the EU with no deal is going to be like but it is most likely to be us that will suffer a long time Independence for Scotland wont be damaged if there is a second referendum and remain wins slightly or leave wins again because of the fall out from either result

thplinth
Fine ignore it then, I don't give a fuck to be honest outside of being called a liar. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/world/france-and-germany-join-forces-as-a-single-superpower-fjf3bgv60 Quote France and Germany are to forge shared defence, foreign and economic policies in an unprecedented “twinning” pact regarded as a prototype for the future of the European Union. Angela Merkel and President Macron will sign a treaty this month to open the way for the neighbours to present a united diplomatic front and act jointly in peacekeeping missions. Regions on either side of the Franco-German border will be encouraged to form “Eurodistricts” with merged water, electricity and public transport networks. Berlin and Paris will offer cash to incentivise these cross-border areas, which could involve shared hospitals, joint business schemes or environmental projects. Some officials regard these experiments as a petri dish for the integration of the EU. Both countries will lobby for Germany to receive… and the rest disappears behind their pay wall. Another mental pensioner on C4. News tonight. They were doing a vox pop round Stoke town centre during the day and got some absolute beauts as it was a sunny day and a lot of people were out. The best was an elderly couple who were getting confused and mumbling some stuff about coming out of the deal and getting rid of MPs. The old guy was waving his arms around in that way that only oldsters do and as the interviewer draws away he shouts that he doesn’t like the French and never has done. ‘What, all of them?’ 🤣🤯
exile
On the radio 4 this morning they talked as if the EU would be stopping the UK existing the Brexit deal, as if the big bad bullying EU was holding Britain to ransom. But the backstop is premised on the Good Friday Agreement as an international treaty which the UK itself signed, with Republic of Ireland, as free and consenting equal partners, partly for the UK to look after her own citizens in Northern Ireland. If the UK broke its own agreement it would be the UK reneging and dishonouring a treaty for its own people. We've argued here about whether the BBC is biased pro or anti EU (I think there are elements of both) but I think much of the problem is its ignorance of history, both the workings of Europe and Northern Ireland and the way they frame the debate. exile
They say there'd be a parliamentary majority for a Norway style arrangement with single market. That would fulfil leaving the EU (clue: Norway is not in the EU!). That is what was on the ballot: leaving the EU, no more, no less. The Norway option was one of the options argued as part of the case for Leave and can't now be disowned by the leave side as a betrayal of Brexit. May presents a false choice between her deal and no deal or no brexit. She is at the heart of the problem IMHO. If the Govt wants a deal it should get on with building a cross party consensus for the good of the country, for something like a Norway style deal. That would at least respect the referendum result (IMHO) and avoid crashing out all our international commitments. If Theresa May won't do it she should step aside and let someone else. Caledonian Craig
I have said it before and will say it again. If May's deal is rejected tonight she should fuck right off. She has already admitted she can do no more. She simply has to go as her beyond rank incompetence cannot and should not go on.

The thing is if you look at the several bullet point promises the Leave Campaign had as their pledges they were never really going to be achievable. They were just empty promises that were always destined to be unfulfilled.
