exile
A report on "The Process of Brexit: What comes next?" (just out this week) https://www.ucl.ac.uk/constitution-unit/news/the-process-of-brexit As far as I can see it doesn't mention the notion that all powers not explicitly reserved to Westminster belong in Holyrood - ie that Brussels powers for fisheries etc should automatically default to Holyrood. Also it seems to divide arguments neatly into domestic and European level issues, without thought of the direct links between the Scottish Government and other European countries. exile
1 hour ago, 86glebestreet said: Well it is what the majority of the U.K. Voted for The UK voted to leave the EU, but all these amendments of today were still possibilities within the Brexit framework. It would still be possible to honour the mandate of leaving the EU, but secure the rights of EU residents. The MPs chose not to. If the Good Friday agreement were to unravel, would it be reasonable to say the majority of the UK voted for that?
Hertsscot
BBC has major headline about Tara Palmer Tompkinson, little coverage of MPS voting against rights of EU citizens living here or closure of Lord Dubs scheme to bring unaccompanied child refugees to UK. Country lurches to the right but media don't report this. I dare say if Trump was doing this it will be all over the news but it's not happening there, it's happening here and the media in general is silent. Rossy
Leaving aside the fact that Tony Blair is an utter lying scumbag, he's saying exactly the sort of thing that Corbyn should be saying as leader of the opposition. Instead of sitting quietly by like a terrified coward, Corbyn should be fighting the Tories tooth and nail to make sure that the UK does not jump off the cliff of a UKIP inspired suicide. It's shameful for Labour that it takes the utterly discredited Blair to voice the feelings of many millions. WTF is Corbyn actually doing ? ParisInAKilt
Tony Blair is indeed a scumbag and should be ignored at all time. No doubt paid by his corporate masters to undermine the result and Corbyn for that matter.

Are you suggesting that Corbyn ignore the result of the referendum and should have encouraged his MP's to vote against the will of the people ? Rossy
Blair is getting air time because he's doing Corbyn's job. Who speaks for the tens of millions of people in the UK who are appalled by the hard right-wing UKIP agenda that May is pushing forward in regards to Brexit ? Certainly not Corbyn, who's cowardice is simply encouraging the extremists in the Tory party.
Ally Bongo
This is all Corbyn is good for when it comes to Scotland - soundbites, rhetoric and lies Kevin Schofield Verified account @PolhomeEditor Jeremy Corbyn: "The SNP may talk the talk in Westminster, and by God they talk in Westminster, but they act like Tories in Holyrood." Orraloon
I thought that Corbyn has always wanted to leave the EU? Even before it became fashionable.
Goozay
13 hours ago, Orraloon said: I thought that Corbyn has always wanted to leave the EU? Even before it became fashionable. That's my understanding. Corbyn would view the EU as pro-corporate interests at the expense of the worker, so he was in a bind during the EU referendum as his beliefs aren't aligned with the Labour Party's stance, nor could he share a platform with the Leave camp as he wasn't bothered about sovereignty or immigration and I dare say he found that rhetoric repugnant - even though he has felt for a long time that the benefits of being an EU member are not strong enough for the consequences. Nationalising the railways will be easier outside the EU - that's an obvious example of a Corbyn policy that's pro-Brexit but that your right wing Brexiteer doesn't care for. I'm sure there are others and it's a shame that none of them were properly debated before the vote was made by the electorate.

Here we have a rhetorical device called False equivalency used as the byline of the piece. "Tony Blair may be reviled by many former supporters, but so is the Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn" No idea who Euan McColm (the author of this piece) but he writes like a sophist. I'm away to watch Blair's speech as a few folk have said it is worth the watch though.
