Tough draw for Andy at the O2 - Wawrinka, Nishikori & Cilic.

A lot rides on this tournament. If he manages to win - at a place where he's performed really poorly in the past - coupled with Djokovic defending a huge number of points during the first half of 2017, Andy is likely to be Nr.1 for many months at least. If Novak wins, he regains the top spot.

Ridiculously lopsided draw. Djokovic has got two injured guys and the tanking Thiem.

Totally. Even if they were all fit, Djokovic has an incredible combined 23-0 record against them.

That is true but that record was amassed when he was in a much better place mentally as in more motivated and more confident. No doubting he does have the easier draw but for now there are no easy matches for him.

guys will all be up for it, seeing many other players beating him recently - same as some football teams lose their invincibility and all the smaller clubs start having a pop at them

Yes precisely.

The one hope (if you are a fan of his) is that he gains motivation to regain his No 1 spot which he'd do if he were to win the WTF.

I think he is screwed on that front - as the next 6 month progresses Murray can only increase points, and Djokovic drop, due to him having a stonger Half Year 1 with exception of this tournament

Murray beats Cilic 6-3 6-2

it was a tough first set but I guess when it only the top 8 playing in this one, all sets will be tough. In the other group match Nishikori beta Wawrinka. Murray plays Nishikori tomorrow evening.

jamie Murray and Soares on court today after opening with a win.

Wawrinka according to reports looking very tired.

Hopefully Cilic can beat him tomorrow and he's already eliminated before facing Murray.

That match against Nishikori was epic, some amazing tennis from both players. Longest three set match in the history of the tournament.

cant wait for tomorrow, my tickets are for the afternoon session, it was confirmed that Murray plays in the afternoon on Friday

It was bad news for Murray with Wawrinkwa winning last night. An already eliminated Stan would've been much less dangerous than one playing for progression. Also bad news for Murray was being the first match on Friday. A Nishikori win in the afternoon would also have Stan already eliminated.

To be honest I think Murray has struggled in both matches so far. He isn't timing the ball that well or striking the ball as cleanly as he has of late. He has won both matches through grit, determination and sheer bloody-mindedness. That will to win is carrying him through at the moment but he must look to up his game against Wawrinka or a disaster could be around the corner.

Everything in this tournament has gone in Djokovic's favour - from the initial draw... to having a last minute stand-in opponent today... to a days rest before the semi... to having had less time on court. He certainly appears to have his confidence back.

If Murray is successful, it will be without any favours.
