buckielugger
Whether or not the Russian bid was corrupt, I do hope tournament still goes ahead there. They are the world's biggest country in area and its long overdue for them to host the World Cup. The recent winter Olympics were the best there's ever been and I would expect a World Cup there to be equally excellent. As for Qatar though. ...hope they lose their tournament. Its a country based on slavery and also has no football pedigree whatsoever.
Scotunited
The guy chuck blazer racked up 29million dollars of debts, and had a apartment in trump tower for his cats!! He only spoke when he was getting done for not paying taxes for years, According to Jennings book - fifa actually got kickbacks paid into Fifa account by mistake and only the Swiss laws saved them on that occasion. Recommend you read that book and then decide if blatter is involved. According to Jennings he said he handed his documents to FBI awhile ago, which allowed the action to be taken against Fifa

For Putin he wants this purely for political reasons and seriously doubt Russia have the infrastructure either in place or being able to have it all in placce in time. Besides if corruption is FIFA's game then Russia will have done shady deals with them - I think that is a guarantee.
thplinth
US ATTACKS FIFA JUST DAYS BEFORE VOTE ON ISRAELI SUSPENSION FROM THE LEAGUE The telling thing here is that Blatter was not arrested. So clearly this is not really about corruption. The USA could not give less than a about corruption, especially in FIFA. http://www.jonathan-cook.net/blog/2015-05-27/us-arrests-as-fifa-mulls-giving-israel-boot/ Edited May 29, 2015 by thplinth
thplinth
Not one banker indicted for the mass fraud that caused the 2008 global financial crisis...not one. But now they are charging FIFA officials with corruption on charges going back to the 90's. It is laughable really. FIFA are obviously as bent as a nine pound note but in this instance they were about to possibly do something extraordinary that would have shook the criminal whanks in power. The yanks do this to stop FIFA kicking Israel out of FIFA ? Presumably Chuck Blazer has been singing like the proverbial canary and i dont doubt they timed the arrests to coincide with the conference. Why wouldnt they? all of the people they want in the same place at the same time. Nice and clean that way. With any luck President Blatter will be getting his collar felt in the very near future ! John_B81
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32927100 Regan says European nations could boycott the World Cup in future. Bluff or genuine?
MacWalka
Was listening to the radio earlier and commentator was saying that the reason USA investigated FIFA was due to the 2026 World Cup which is between China and USA. Commentator mentioned that Chinese companies has bought the company who actually do the World Cup organising which happens to be run by Sepp Blatter's nephew. Chinese companies have also been involved with buying Atletico Madrid and are in the process of buying AC Milan and are involved in other deals to influence football. Basically, due to the soft power of sport, USA didn't want China to get the 2026 World Cup and so are at least trying to remove the corruption at FIFA to bring down some of China's potential influence in the bidding process. Deedee
The recent winter Olympics were the best there's ever been Don`t agree with that. I watch winter sports all the time and i thought the Sochi games were probably the least enjoyable i`ve seen.

redstevie007
Most of those voting for Blatter are up to their necks in it as well. They either vote him back in or go down with him. Blatter won't resign, he knows the minute his arse is out of that seat the truth will start trickling out. He needs to keep running for re-election because he knows he's going to jail otherwise. He'll die in the job rather than face the justice he deserves, or be arrested in the unlikely event someone squeals.
