Still can't get my head round the fact that Clydebank went SNP, given it's industrial history (John Brown's, Singers etc). This place was as Red as they come. And the fact that Martin Docherty overturned a 17k majority and turned it into a 10k one.

Heady times.

14k actually :) also on how heavily the area (allegedly) relies on Faslane and Coulport.

Ian Murray STILL bleating out the arrogant lie that voting SNP put the Tories in

Thats the last Labour MP in Scotland for you and why they will never recover

Edinburgh South deserve him

Glad that is his reaction. He is like an alcoholic who is in denial. Until he admits the problem is Labour and their Westminster-obsessed manifestos and agenda then he will be the last Labour MP to get elected for some time here until they sort themselves out but frankly do we care?

He has a point, to be fair. All those candidates the SNP fielded in England siphoned off thousands of votes from Labour.

And the ridiculous twitter f&ck up by the SNP candidate. It beggars belief that stuff sometimes.

He posted a link to a SATIRICAL website FFS. Doing that doesn't imply you believe what the site says literally. There was no story, but that didn't stop the unionist media making stuff up and extrapolating to attack him and the SNP. It's like RevStu retweeting one of Ian Smart's offensive tweets - doesn't imply he agrees with the content.

Yes forums I have been on (mostly English posters) all brand SNP as xenophobic bullies bullying people into voting for them yet look at the other parties? On election night the Tory MP in Merseyside who lost her seat said she was attacked with abuse by the competing Labour MP. Try telling that to English posters though as their only agenda is against the SNP.

The only tepid argument that Labour might have is that the rise of the SNP cost them votes in England - but of course thats not the one they are using and would prefer to tell numerical lies

There was a report on Newsnight about 2 weeks before the election where studies and polls had shown that the possibility of Labour being backed by the SNP was having an effect but the (slight) majority of voters in England werent that bothered

Miliband should have grown a pair and not demonised the SNP like the Tories were doing and it is more that which cost them some votes

There is a map on BBC which allows you to see the votes by party across the UK. Am I right in thinking that UKIP lost their deposit in every seat they contested in Scotland? It seems to be under reported.

It was pretty clear from the polls on leadership that when it came to the crunch voters wanted Cameron as PM rather than Milliband. That's the main reason Labour lost...

When are the local elections? Wonder if getting an SNP led council will help with the regeneration of parts of Glasgow - some good stuff has been done but so many brown sites, gaps and city centre buildings need investment. And GCC are plowing ahead with a huge city centre shopping mall extension - madness. As said, wonder if a change of cooncil will make any material change to regeneration and the provision of services.

Extension of the Buchanan Galleries is mental. There are loads of empty units in the existing shopping centre. Plus there are over a dozen empty units just 5 minutes walk away in the St Enoch Centre

Aye, we've really got to fight this. It's absolutely daft, and I fully expect a few brown envelopes have been exchanged between the developers and Labour councillors. It's a totally stupid idea. We need SNP and Green councillors in there to stop it at all costs.

Indeed (to me anyway) the steps outside the concert hall are an iconic image of the re-born, 21st Century City of Glasgow.

The next local elections are in 2017. Glesga Cooncil have got 2 years on full "cleaning skeletons oot of cupboard" mode, before they booted out. They will be shitting themselves. Some smart salesman should get in there quick. I can see a major order for shredders on the cards.

This.

Far more folk make up their minds on who to vote for during the lifetime of a government than they do during the 3 weeks of the election campaign. Miliband and the Labour party failed to convince England they were ready to govern from the day he became leader onwards.

As for Scottish Labour, things started to go really wrong for them when they opposed the SNP minority government's policies - even when they actually agreed with them. Labour established a collaborative parliament in Holyrood but then opposed the Scottish Executive just for the sake of it.

It's a very long road back for Scottish Labour.
