ErsatzThistle
Following on from a discussion on the Anything Goes section a few months back....... Most of you probably have Spotify, so if you haven't heard it, search for Scottish World Cup Anthems. Ignore the atrocious "Ally's Tartan Army", it gets worse ......... much, much worse. Prepare yourself for - "Fergie's Fusiliers", "5,000,000 Scotsmen Will Call", "We're the Scotland Supporters", "Viva Scotland" and "Scotland Rules". Kitsch at it's scraping the bottom of the barrel worst Did these records briefly catch the Scottish public's imagination at the time they were released ? Please tell me they didn't ! The CIA, MI5 and Mossad probably use them during interrogations to make suspects talk, they really are that bad ! Also can anyone shed any light on just who the fücking fück "Ben Gunn", "The Tartan Lads", "Mr Abie", "Big Bad Jock" and "Sandy Scot" actually were ? Don't even get me started on that money grabbing fud Andy Cameron

It's uplifting and also has a warm kind of innocence about it, well thats how I feel when I listen to it. But it's the above mentioned musical atrocities and the wallopers responsible for them that this thread is more about.
hunchy
Apart from alpha army I don't think I've heard any of them. Will have to look them up just so I can hear how bad they are
thistle do nicely
Viva scotland was part of our school's around the world music extravaganza, there was a picture in the advertiser of the boys singing it in scotland strips. Mr Abie was a dj on clyde 2 or something, think he played sixties tunes.

I think he tried a double cash in for the 82 World Cup by doing "Viva Ireland" as well. I mind they played an exclusive preview of "Fergie's Fusiliers" over the PA at Kenny Dalglish's testimonial. A lot of wtf looks were exchanged. Discovered his obituary, from nearly 20 years ago! http://m.heraldscotland.com/news/12286648.Ben_Gunn/

wanderer
Maybe its day had come and went by the 90's, but do not recall many songs released before Euro 96 (just the official song from Rod Stewart, which was effectivly the squad singing over a version Rod had recorded 3/4 years earlier) but recall there was a fair few before the 98 World Cup. You had the official Del Amitri one (which as a football song is shocking, but as a song in its own right is not bad.... fitted in great with Brit Pop at the time, and think Jarvis Cocker even went as far as saying its one of his favorite songs from that era) plus two comedy value ones in the feel of what you got in 1978 with the Wee'est Piper Band in the World and the Tony Roper one. One that probably nobody has ever heard but is a good one is "Carry the Hopes of Scotland" which was the B-Side to the 1986 song (probably a case where the B-Side is A LOT better than the A-side)
dandydunn
Anyone know the name of the song that started, "to the heart of every player, from the heart of every fan, please remember when you're out there, that were with you every man" or something along those lines. Goes on about the terraces of hampden and the stadiums of France. I used to have it,but ended up watching too much porn and killed my laptop. Thanks in advance. Is that the song that attempts to sound like something from the Trainspotting soundtrack, but basically turns into Rangers bashing and VERY little to do with Scotland and Euro 96? Ally Bongo
Clem Dane was tremendous About 20 years ago was on holiday and happened to have one of his shows on audio tape which i believe was recorded at Kirkintilloch Rob Roy club and was around the time Butcher had just signed for Rangers - so it was 10 years old then Think Mr Abie fell into relative obscurity - had some family issues i believe

Jacques Hunt
The best 'worst ever' for me has to be the '74 WC squad's cover of England's 1970 'Back Home'. Totally cringeworthy and titled Back Hame. Most of these songs are cringeworthy of course but the 74 album takes some beating. Still got it though with my ripped out Dundee Sporting Post results and tables page all filled in in ballpoint pen. Collectors' item or what? Is the song your thinking of "The Big Man and the Scream Team Meet the Barmy Army Uptown" ? That is the actual title !
