Charlie Endell
do Russian aircraft not have one of the worst safety records in the world ? Operated by a Russian airline, but it was an Airbus. Of all the areas in the world to have technical failure. Hmmm........... It's reported to have had technical difficulties during the week - the pilot asked to make an emergency landing but sadly didn't make it. It was flying at 30,000ft - outside the range of IS and company. Tin foil hats can be removed.

Charlie Endell
Another strangeo one. Definitely doesn't sound like terrorism. Sounds like pilot has attempted some sort of emergency landingAccording to reports he never got that far - the plane crashed 50km short of the airport. Toepoke
Operated by a Russian airline, but it was an Airbus. An A321. The wings would've been built in the UK. Scary stuff, you tend to think this kind of thing doesn't happen to modern airliners...

They're saying it had engine problems during the week and these weren't addressed - will need to see what comes out of the crash investigation. Short haul planes don't last as long in that respect, more flights therefore more pressurisation stress. 18 years is getting on a bit but not extremely old by charter airline standards... thewelk
I've been in a few air France planes recently that still had the space on the arm rest for the ash trays. Makes you wonder about the age.

Rossy
The 747's from airlines like BA and KLM are 'old' but immaculately serviced. Mechanically, they're sound. I hate flying on them because they're simply not as comfortable as....for instance...the new Airbuses introduced by Delta. BA are phasing them out though.
