do Russian aircraft not have one of the worst safety records in the world ?

Operated by a Russian airline, but it was an Airbus.

Of all the areas in the world to have technical failure.

Hmmm...........

It's reported to have had technical difficulties during the week - the pilot asked to make an emergency landing but sadly didn't make it. It was flying at 30,000ft - outside the range of IS and company. Tin foil hats can be removed.

was reading that plane came into service in 1997 has been about in service in Libya Saudi Arabia it's that no wee bit old for a passenger airliner ? how long do these passenger airliners stay in service for

I'm no aviation expert but don't think that's unusual. They're saying it had engine problems during the week and these weren't addressed - will need to see what comes out of the crash investigation.

It's down to the number of flights it makes rather than the age. Short haul planes don't last as long in that respect, more flights therefore more pressurisation stress.

18 years is getting on a bit but not extremely old by charter airline standards...

This site here lets you check the ages of many airlines' fleets.

BA are still flying 747s delivered in 1990. Although as I mentioned long haul planes tend to have longer service....

The Air France ash tray flight I'm talking about was an Airbus a321 and the oldest one of those they have is from 1997. The French...

The 747's from airlines like BA and KLM are 'old' but immaculately serviced. Mechanically, they're sound.

I hate flying on them because they're simply not as comfortable as....for instance...the new Airbuses introduced by Delta.

BA are phasing them out though.
