phart
http://www.counterpunch.org/2014/12/16/the-oil-coup/ It'll gut Scotland way before it guts Russia, and almost every other oil producing country, that intelligence services schill John Simpson was trying to imply that Putin was the one responsible for "starting a new cold war" http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn1584-taliban-nuclear-documents-mirror-spoof-article.html#.VJLY3XsvyQk an example of what happens when one digs deeper into Simpson. phart
http://www.counterpunch.org/2014/12/16/the-oil-coup/ also remember the Saudi's in dealing with us "Saudi Arabia's rulers threatened to make it easier for terrorists to attack London unless corruption investigations into their arms deals were halted, according to court documents revealed yesterday. Previously secret files describe how investigators were told they faced "another 7/7" and the loss of "British lives on British streets" if they pressed on with their inquiries and the Saudis carried out their threat to cut off intelligence." http://www.counterpunch.org/2014/12/16/the-oil-coup/
phart
http://www.counterpunch.org/2014/12/16/the-oil-coup/ Also to tie it all in with what's been happening "On August 10th, 21st Century Wire expanded on a Reuters news release which reported how Saudi intelligence head, Prince Bandar bin Sultan offered a $15 billion weapons contract to Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting on July 31st. Apparently, the Russia rebuffed this rather generous offer because the deal was dependent upon Moscow letting go of its existing arms contracts with the Syrian government in Damascus." http://21stcenturywire.com/2013/08/27/saudi-prince-bandars-second-attempt-at-bribing-russia-to-drop-support-of-syria/

Flure
#ScottishLabour on Oil; When times are good it's the UK's oil to 'pool and share'. When times are bad its Scotland's problem. #RedTories

Jacobite
And what is the Scottish Government going to do to protect the oil sector. I thought thats what unionists were arguing against only a few months ago that the Scottish Govt should not have powers over the oil sector. Unfortunately, it could also be disastrous news for people employed in and around the oil industry. But hey ho, so long as the SNP are pissed off, that's all that matters... biffer
Analyst on the radio this morning saying the current price is an over reaction, but it could go down another $10 before rebounding stabilising back up at around $70-80. Borderline for a lot of our fields so far as I understand it.

Scotland wouldn't have been independent until 2016 at the earliest, this would still be a Westminster issue as much as it is now. And scotland being a successful independent country was never solely dependent on the price of oil.

ParisInAKilt
This is spot on and something I have told a few no's when they started their gloating about the oil price. King Of Paisley
You could almost argue it is karma for the likes of Sir Ian Wood and the 'I'm alright jacks' in Aberdeen who overwhelmingly voted No.
Jacobite
The gloating is flipping bizarre. A people might lose their jobs and B it hurts the economy now. Its really strange its like some of them really would like to see Scotland hammered to ensure we don't get ideas above our station again. The reality is if we had been a normal country we would have just had to deal with this. Norway has had to dip into its oil fund a bit more and no doubt other countries big and small will deal with it in their own way until the price goes back up. Scotland would of course have been unique and we would be needing food banks on the streets of Milltimber and UN helicopters dropping Red Cross food and clothing to the masses. The UK is currently losing money with the oil price how are they coping ??? The oil is a bonus and if, as some clever people have said,Scotland had set up an oil fund and put money away for a rainy day the drop could have been cushioned until the price went back up. phart
It's our own "allies" playing real politik which is shafting many an economy. Folk used to wonder why I had Assad as my Avatar it's cause he is the lynch-pin of global attention at the moment. Ukraine, the oil crisis, were all consequences of Putin not being willing to drop his alliance status with Syria. The Saudi's tried bribing him as i linked above, and it didn't work, probably cause Putin isn't a Tony Blair type who shut down massive police operations as soon as a wee bit pressure was put on him. So now they flood the market.

Well observed, when all's well its UK oil, when prices temporarily drops its Scotland's. We should have had 40 years of a oil fund tucked away by now for a rainy day.
