As opposed to doing the same nonsense?

Yes, I would suggest that sticking with the status quo which involves players playing in positions they are fairly familiar with is probably a better option than that.

If you want to suggest trying Robertson at CDM before a friendly then I'll be all ears.

That's the thing, I would say that Robertson is more adapt as an anchorman as Tierney is a center back.

Isn't the whole idea of this Nations league a way of phasing out friendlies?

Strange opinion given that Robertson has never played in that position. You must really, really not rate Tierney as a centre half.

You may turn out to be 100% correct of course, however we will not be finding out in the next fixture.

Given we've just had 2 fairly recently, I'd say not. The way groups work will always leave teams with scope for a friendly here and there.

I don't think it's a matter of not rating Tierney as a center half, I just rate him more as a wing-back.

I remember when Guardiola moved Lahm from left back to anchorman, he wasn't questioned for doing it, as Lahm was the type of player who could've played anyone on the park. I think we should think the same of Robertson. Not that I'm saying that Robertson was the player Lahm was, but he's certainly getting there.

Good point. Off topic, though, playing Portugal and Belgium was absolutely crazy. This is the time to build confidence, not play against two teams that have the ability of destroying us.

Aye, the Nations League wasn't designed to phase out friendlies altogether. It was designed to reduce the number of them and replace some of them with more meaningful games between teams of similar standard. There will still be free dates available for friendlies, especially for teams in three team Nations League groups, or five team groups for the WC qualifiers.

Eck is already trying to shoe horn Tierney into  a centre half position and Roberston into the wing back position, both play as outright left backs for their clubs. Playing Robertson as an anchor is not such a daft shout when you have people putting Tierney into Right back or centre half. I don't think Eck would put Robertson into an anchor man role but Chripper has a point, he does have the attributes for it.

Personally I would have Robertson at LB and no Tierney in the team unless Robertson is injured

I don't see it being comparable considering Tierney has actually played RB and CB for Scotland, and CB for Celtic.

Agree about having Robertson at LB though. It's his best position and where he is most effective. If that means Tierney gets shifted (to either RB, CB or the bench) then so be it.

Tierney has only played once at RB, possibly twice not exactly a regular, not that any of it matters. The anchor man position will not be filled by Robertson

Eck will continue trying to shoe horn both in to "unnatural" positions because he won't have the balls to drop Tierney. I prefer a balanced side where the players are playing in as natural and comfortable positions as is possible.

Back 4 - O'Donnell Mckenna Mulgrew Robertson - let this back four play together for as long as possible and let them settle together. O'Donnell I appreciate played poorly in his last game but he played very well in our most recent win and he's on form for Killie (based on Sunday's match)

As for the rest, fuck knows what to do upfront...............................Griffiths is what we need but he is either not interested or genuinely not fit. I'd love to see Fraser, Robertson , McGregor and Forrest on form whilst supplying Griffiths with ammo....................................I can dream

Absolutely right.

I've watched Robertson in every match he'd played this season. His intelligence is improving on a weekly basis, he's economical with the ball and he rarely gives it away, plus he has some engine on him. Some people seem to think to play in the anchorman role you have to have the ability to spray the ball 40/50 yards, but I don't remember Gattuso or Paul Lambert or Dunga being particularly adept at long passes. The anchorman position is a specialised one, you need to be intelligent, you have to be responsible and you have to be good at keeping the ball and have a good engine. The way that Robertson screamed and bawled at the ref in Liverpool's match against Arsenal, for not blowing the whistle when he was obviously fouled, it shows that he has a fire in his belly when he needs it. I'd love to see him in the anchorman role as I think he would excel.

I think Tierney would be better than Robertson in that role. He’s better in the air and can hit 40 yard passes, if required. It also keeps Robertson in his best position.

Maybe. It would be interesting to see either player in that position. I do think McLeish ought to try it.

Oh god, here we go. 🙄

Why is it people in today's society view "thinking outside the box" as a wind up? If you don't agree with my opinions then fine, that's completely your prerogative. I consider it a hand-handed compliment that you take note of my posts, as I don't think I've ever noticed yours.

Yeah, when it comes to Scotland I'm an inch away from packing it all in, so no, no wind ups at all. If you don't agree with me all you have to do is open your mind to the possibility that people are able to think differently.

Fair play to you mate. Some of your ideas are a wee bit left field, and I'm not going to say I agree with them, but at least they're something different and you've put a bit of thought into it. We've been doing the "tried and tested" thing for years now and have went backwards. Unfortunately, right now we don't have many coaches capable of something a wee bit different, so we'll be either parking the bus, or lumping it up to a target man for the foreseeable future. Besides, I've seen way worse ideas from others on here.

Oh, my ideas are so left field that they've left the field entirely. 😉

I definitely agree with that, we've tried the status quo for so long now that I can completely understand when people are surprised when someone pops up with an idea that could be construed as a wee bit out there. To he honest, mate, I'm nearing the end of my tether, so much so that I want the manager to try anything, no matter how insane or out there it may appear (as long as it's not a 4-6-0. 😉)

Anyway, I think the team will look like this:

Shagger

Tierney         Mulgrew           McKenna         Robertson

McGinn         Armstrong

Phillips                      McGregor                      Fraser

  Fletcher

At least two of those will call off.

Was half-listening (H and J, talkSPORT) and Snodgrass without coming out with it saying he has had injury issues ''took a pain killer for the Iceland game'' (eh??!!) so is focusing on West Ham, so guessing he's sort of retired.

Should have been listening better, as probably half of this is false, but it was something like that! Ooops :)
