Rightly or worngly they seem(ed) like wide-o's. I know where you are coming from ma pal. I get it. I really do. But it was that arrogance that made us go to Wembley and fear nothing. Great programme last week on Wembley 77. Kevin Keegan said we were walking up the tunnel and we we smell the whisky. He was good on that programme btw and loves the Scots. But he said on a thread entitled "what is your real name?"... (My name is) Kevin Umnio. I forget the guy who actually believed him but it was inadvertent comedy genius. He is Kev. 50% Maori, 50% Dundonian, 100% Kev. And we all love Kev. Bless you. Kev. edit: oooo it might have been Derek whatshisname. Even worse the motherwell fans that wont stand up for him. Riddle me this.... I can only stand up for Davie Cooper as a footballer. He was a great player for Motherwell, and few would argue he took us to another level, where we actually won something. Probably my favourite ever player. Can't vouch for him as a person, as I was in his company for a few seconds as an 8 year old. I'd hypothesised there was a decent chance he was a bigot pretty early in the discussion, but was happy to hear folk who actually knew the man say otherwise. Cooper was a great player. Like so many other players we have produced as a country. And I could label any player a bigot, racist, etc without any foundation but I wouldn't. What a country of rogues. Never appreciating true heroes. Thanks for finally answering though although you cant vouch for him. I cant vouch for Elvis.

I don't think anyone is doubting Cooper was a good, or very good player. Just folk have questioned if he was as good as some made out. Possible, that like a lot who die young, they've had the judgement on their abilities boosted a bit? This comment is the only one on this thread that is hallway sensible. EddardStark
Having followed Rangers regulary from 74 to 84 I can only go on my own personal view. He is probably one of the best dead ball specialists I have seen play the game. His delivery was fantastic and his ability to get past players was top class. On many ocassions he forgot he was part of an 11 man team though. In that I meant he didn't only want to beat a player once he went back and beat him again which on many ocassions was counter productive. A player that people actually wanted to pay money to go and watch. I remember being over the moon when we signed him from Clydebank. He scored some incredible goals in his time and also played his part in crucial Scotland victories. Debian
I'm sure if someone was to come on here with 'Big Jock Knew' there'd be a massive outcry. Why? Because, there's no evidence to back it up. And, because it's a scummy thing to do. It appears that a dead man can be labelled pretty much anything, without one bit of evidence. Nothing more than hear-say. It may be there is some truth with Mr Cooper, but unless you categorically can back it up, I suggest not to post it. /Thread

BremnerLorimerGray
In my experience and that of my family as we were neighbours of his, Cooper was a gentleman. He certainly was a Rangers fan, but not the horrible bigot some are suggesting.

But that wont go down well to some on here who now have a bit of factual information. But as I said. Time to let it go. He was my hero and still is.
