harrystarfish
Well he deserves a long rest now, away from the pish of politics.
redstevie007
A sad day if he does go. I've come to regard him as one of our greatest politicians and perhaps only he could've brought us this close. If you do go Alex, thank you and enjoy your well-earned rest. vanderark14
If you go Alex, thank you for all you have done. You got us here but ultimately the people of scotland are not as strong as you had hoped
smiler82
I really hope that is not true... The media should be ashamed of themselves the way they ganged up on him and portrayed him as soon pantomime bad guy... He campaigned for what he thought was best for the people of Scotland... Many other career politicians cannot say the same!

johnnie x
Should be given the freedom of Glasgow, Dundee, north Lanarkshire and west Dumbartonshire. Thanks big fella.

runningtings
This could be his last masterstroke, get Labour in to it all up, then another referendum in a few years!
scotlad
Hopefully not, but if he does go he will be missed.
Toepoke
Really sad to see this if true. He still has a year and a half as FM to serve. If it is true I hope he plans to return to Westminster to fight for change where it is needed...
Jonny
He's not going, there is a life and spirit yet in the man that most of us cannot reach. He'll see off Labour in 2016. He's the greatest politician Scotland has ever had. Edited September 19, 2014 by Jonny

Rossy
He's done an astonishing job to get 45% of the population to believe in something better. I'd be devastated if he stepped down and gave any satisfaction at all to these racist, twisted bigots in the right-wing press. I'm hoping he's gonna stand up there loud and proud, and tell the world that he's up for the fight of demanding significant more powers from Westminster, and doing everything he can for the good of his country.
