TA Torr
So who do we think would be good to play and why? Think a couple of games against lower pot eastern European sides would be a good Idea as we always struggle.
ironbrew
Georgia away would be an obvious fixture if we want to measure progress. Top European teams seem to play each other now anyway so unlikely to play any of them. Potentially we could play 7 friendlies before Malta (2 in November, 2 in March, 2 in June and 1 just before Malta) but will be surprised if we play even 4. Are there any strng rumours of friendlies for us? Thought I read Budapest in November somewhere here.
ProudScot
Lets play as many friendlies as possible for a change; Try out plan B's, Two upfront away from home & deserving younger/future players
tjm007
Pick a team who you think has a ranking higher than they merit that are beatable.

northernscum
Pick a team who you think has a ranking higher than they merit that are beatable. The ranking thing is a bit of a side issue for the moment. There will not be a draw for another 2 years so there is no desperation to pick up ranking points. It is far more important thatvwe get the right opposition, tactically. One of the four play off losers would be a starting point for a November game. girvanTA
Hungary, Romania, Iceland, Bosnia would do for me
tartanpar
Hungary a, Romania a or Austria away would be my bet. Hungary are in the play offs so not in November but would be a good one for March.
tartanpar
One of the four play off losers would be a starting point for a November game. The play offs are in November - the same dates as the friendlies.
aaid
Rumours of Iceland in November at Pittodrie. N.Ireland sometime before the championships. Hungary possibly in March.
smiler82
Iceland would be a good friendly... the Swiss qualified with a slightly above average squad so lets play them away from home and set up to go and win the game. Would be good to play an Eastern European side and start to get into the habit of going there and winning.
northernscum
What a dick I am! How can we play the losers of the playoff in November, that is when the games are played! Doh!
aaid
Also heard Australia in Sydney in May last night but that may well have been wishful thinking.
tartanpar
Hungary are in the play offs so not in November but would be a good one for March. Just noticed Hungary are likely to finish best 3rd place team so they may be available in November.

Diego10
Just noticed Hungary are likely to finish best 3rd place team so they may be available in November. Will be unless Ukraine beat Spain. Every chance right enough, Spain already won group.
bajin
There is also the chance that Turkey could be best 3rd place. They need to beat Iceland and have Kazakhstan beat Latvia. Hungary are lucky Greece finished bottom of their group, as Hungary only had one point against them.
John_B81
We'll probably play Sweden or Denmark in one of the friendlies.
Hertsscot
Anyone know how much input the manager has on the number of friendlies and the nature of the opponents? I saw a headline on the Record the other day about SFA being in no rush about Strachan's future but surely they need to be planning now. I'd like to think we'd go into the WC qualifiers having tried one or two things differently and brough in a few fresh faces.
Stockholm 1980
We should be looking to play either Greece or Cyprus away in the June fixture next year. Conditions will be similar to Malta in September and standard will be slightly better. Although still a Pot 6 country, Malta are not getting hammered any more, and been giving teams a match in recent times, so we got to have no banana skins when we kick off against them in September.
