That's Iraq open to Russia conducting air-strikes as well, since they proved so effectual against terrorists in Syria, you couldn't make it up, if Russia Roll-back ISIS in a couple of weeks, what the feck were we doing apart from arming them?

"Iraqi prime minister says he would ‘welcome’ Russian airstrikes in Iraq"

"In an interview with France 24 television, Abadi accused the U.S.-led coalition of a lack of support and questioned the will of Western leaders to defeat the Islamic State."

Bizarrely for those of us growing up in the cold war Putin and Russia are now the de facto leaders of the 'free' world.

Crazy eh? So it looks like Russia have in a few days done more than over a year of allied bombing has done. Sorta lets you know who was really getting bombed in the area.

Have we not been down the interfering road before? Why is it that the US and sheepishly followed by the UK feel every so often that they have to become the moral police of the world? They intervened in Libya and that country is now the worse for it. They intervened in the Gulf War and achieved naff all and then in Afghanistan and that country is still largely in turmoil. Something tells me Syria will be no different. I reckon the UK and US should keep their beaks out and rubbing dangerous factions up the wrong way.

I agree, it's hell on earth for so many people due to our interfering or selling arms to dodgy regimes.

We're not even doing it for ourselves either it's to help Israel.

Any truth on the report I've seen about Russian aircraft escorting Israeli aircraft that had invaded Syrian airspace? Only seen a wee flash of it somewhere (pos fb) so not sure how much truth there was in it

If its true then really we are obviously not as brilliant at sorting the world out as we thought (in reality we all know the USA and UK just make a mess anywhere they go)

And that's the worst bit about it. Israel are a disgrace and the UK and USA are a huge part of that, really is disgusting

It is far worse than 'we tried to sort it out but made a mess of it'. The plan from the start was to deliberately reduce these nations into chaos. The plan in Iraq was to destabilize the country and break it into warring factions. They have been working on this ever since they took over and immediately disbanded the army and police forces. The strategy is essentially that of the one eyed man. For the one eyed man (Israel) to be king (of the region) first they have to blind (destroy) all her regional rivals. Every country they have gone in to spread their democracy has descended into anarchy and chaos. This mess is exactly what they hoped for and planned for, it is not an accident. When you consider the scale of human suffering involved in the strategy it really does reveal that the people running the show are utterly depraved and evil. It is disgusting, truly revolting.

Plus they want to start off an Islamic conflict that will spread into Russia’s border, because ultimately they want to break up Russia as well. They are headcases and I honestly don’t think they will stop. Sooner or later there is a big war coming because these neocon s are lunatics who think it is there manifest destiny to rule the world. And if anyone group on the planet personify evil it is them.

Yeah Putin isn't coming in cause he is good guy either, just basically had enough of all the interference in his domain, and saving an ally in the region. There is no good guys, just players.

Now IF Russia roll-back ISIS in weeks it's a PR disaster for the US.

The US and our Parliament have been saying we've been combating ISIS for a year, the Ruskies come in do it in 3 weeks. Back home the Russians are loving the footage of their military ripping through things the Americans "couldn't" (see wouldn't) do. Putin approval is going up (as it does during war time)

What makes you think Putin is not a good guy? I know he has been subjected to incredible propaganda in the western press but take that away I am struggling to find anything that indicates he is anything other than what he appears to be. Did you listen to his UN speech?

"Do you realize what you have done?"

From what I know and have seen of him I like him and can see why he is so popular in Russia and now the wider world. He is a real chess player on the world stage. Very very shrewd man.

I've been asked to pass on this message from the cooler...

As defender and poster boy for capitalist Russia he's a bad guy... But it's impossible not to love him, definitely this generations Chuck Norris or Cove Sheep. Saying that, compared to the governments of UK and US the man is a saint.

You think Russia can and will wipe out ISIS ? You think that is their plan ?

(not defending any side btw - genuine question)

Yes and yes. They're hitting it with missles from ships , air strikes, have heavy artillery on the ground and we'll see how long it takes them to retake Palmrya. Started offensives already. It'll be a huge PR victory for Russia sweeping in and destroying this huge world threat, and stopping the cause of the humanitarian crisis in a couple of months.

In many ways I hope you are correct - just cannot see it though.

ISIS is a mercenary army. Putin said in interview on 60 minutes they know all about it, who is financing them and how and even how much the salary is per man. They also know who is buying the oil off them and ask why there is no sanctions on any of these people. The 60 minute interview is also very interesting viewing.

Read that the Russian’s are providing air support while the Iraq and Iranians (revolutionary guard) are going to crush them on the ground. Looks like they have agreed to work together.

The Soviet Union couldn't deal with the Taliban. I suppose ISIS is different in that the CIA isn't funding and training them (so far as I know...), in fact the West is supposedly against them too.

Ultimatley I would say it is the CIA behind ISIS.

The russians have radar that can see stealthy aircraft (stealth is a bit of a con). They have analysed the american flight patterns in detail and they concluded that the US has no real interest in bombing ISIS and in fact it looked like it was resupplying them.

The Taliban weren't in power till 1996 7 years after the end of the Soviet-Afghan war.
