tartanpar
How the hell could the Czech Republic be a pot 1 side? They have been pretty dire over the last couple of years. Nowhere near the level of the side that contained the likes of Poborsky, Nedved, Koller, Smicer and co. The have won their first 4 qualifiers inc a win against the Netherlands. You get much more points for winning qualifiers and the current years results are worth more than previous results. That is also why Romania and Iceland are also so high. It is all about hitting form at the right time.
Shotts56
There's actually only 3 "weeks of football" throughout the campaign. On 4 occasions it's qualifiers only on Fri-Sat-Sun like last week. Don't mind it tbh. I've enjoyed having a different than usual big game to watch every night... Me too, I quite like it as well. Gives you the opportunity to watch other games that you never normally get a chance to see because you're at the Scotland game. Have recently watched Slovakia-Spain, Czech Republic-Iceland and Belgium-Wales and enjoyed every one of them. In the ideal world we would like every game at Hampden at 3pm on a Saturday, but that's the world we live in now. We just have to accept it. Equally, Sweden, Ireland, Turkey and Norway would be hellish pot 4 sides. So many teams at a reasonably similar level across the groupings there. ErsatzThistle
Avoid the Czech Republic. They're a team we nearly always feck up against. I'd like: Romania, Slovakia, Finland, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. Not easy at all but at least it's new opposition ! We'll probably end up with the Czech Republic, Iceland, Norway, Lithuania and Georgia. The same old fecking teams over and over again

Usually its pot 3 that is a little bit iffy, but have to say Pot 4 is a right sod (a number of teams there you would consider standard pot 2/3 teams......) .... really hard just to pick one from there as they are all teams I would prefer to avoid (probably leaning more towards Finland and Armenia being considered the best draws from that pot) Portugal, Austria, Scotland, Finland, Moldova, Andorra would be a good group to get
hannibal smith
interesting our current group we were pot 4 weren't we? currently Poland, Ireland and Georgia have all slipped down a pot
Lion Rampant
interesting our current group we were pot 4 weren't we? currently Poland, Ireland and Georgia have all slipped down a pot Think Poland have stayed as they were and Ireland have dropped 2 pots as they were 2nd seeds iirc
deecie
Why are Romania ranked so high? Have I missed something here? Pot 4 looks ridiculous. With Faroes being in Pot 5, I'd be delighted to draw them again.
wanderer
currently Poland, Ireland and Georgia have all slipped down a pot Didn't UEFA not bend the rules slightly for Poland and raised them from Pot 3 (along side us) to Pot 2 due to them sliding down the world rankings as a result of hosting Euro 2012? wanderer
Sweden so low too. Definitely a team to avoid! Sweden just go to show how hard it actually is to grasp the world rankings.... they had a good WC campaign, yet seem to have played an awfully lot of friendlies this year against lower nations (ie Moldova, Estonia etc....) and have got beaten any time they have played a half decent nation.... also they have really stuttered with the start of their Euro campaign. Could be a case that they are a nation who's pot placing is really down to a bad run of games, and once they get going their placing will be a really false one. Eastiebeastie
The last 12 months is so important. Its why we are now floating around mid 30s, as our 2 big world ranking wins v Croatia have been watered down and the wins in the last 12 months against Poland, Georgia and Ireland were against nations poorly ranked. Wonder how much better off we would be had we held on for a win v Nigeria, given they were around the top 20 at the time.

Its why we are now floating around mid 30s, as our 2 big world ranking wins v Croatia have been watered down and the wins in the last 12 months against Poland, Georgia and Ireland were against nations poorly ranked. Because we didn't go to the World Cup..... if you look at the top 20, Ukraine at 19 is the only nation not to get to the World Cup, with your top 10 effectively your quarter finalists, so we were always going to fall a little bit towards the end of this year after getting ourselves up the rankings. tartanpar
No. ROI were the 2nd seeds, Poland 3rd and us 4th. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2016_qualifying Poland and Ukraine were both given extra points to make up for the fact they could not play qualifiers for the previous two years. By doing so Poland moved from pot 4 (like us) to pot 3. That is why we played them in March because everyone expected us both to be in the same pot.
