...there's an overlap!
…either live in the stadium or on TV and were you born round about 1967? Well, it's just occurred to me that the chances are you're not a kick in the backside off being 50 years old and have never watched Scotland beat England at home. Mind blooooowwwwwn!!! Speaking personally, the 1976 win at Hampden was a year before I started getting into football. Defeats followed in 78, 80, 82 and then we drew in 1984. The 1985 game I missed as I played in a junior golf open somewhere in the west of Scotland where, just like at Hampden, it chucked it down the whole day. 1987 draw, 1989 defeat, 1999 defeat. I still can't believe it. Anyone else in the same boat and just a shocked and surprised at that thought??

Robroysboy
That was my first Scotland match. I was ten. Richard Gough header to win the match! I can also recall monkey noises when john Barnes came on as a sub. Thankfully we have moved on since then. Same scoreline tomorrow would do nicely. Graham of Montrose
The 76 game was my first Scotland game (what a debut) I was also at the 85 game. Only missed one home game V Them since 76. I think it was the 82 game.

giblet
had a chance to go to the game in 1985. I was 14. I chose to go winching at Coasters at the roller disco! Remember it absolutely pishing down at the bus stop and me watching the end of the game in a tv shop window.

Boynze
its fair to say then that our 'recent' home record is poor - we must surely therefore 'owe them one'.
Jagtag
I was in the Dry end. Section J. What a day. Walked back to central station in the pissing rain and didn't notice or even care how wet I was.
Toepoke
I was in the Dry end. Section J. What a day. Likewise. I was in J with my dad and his mates. My old man also got a couple of North Enclosure tickets from a guy at his work the night before which I offered to my delighted pal and his dad. After several hours in the pishing rain they weren't as appreciative, but at least we got a result...

I remember thinking the win was nothing special as it was only 1-0 and that I'd see plenty more victories over the old enemy, including a few times when we would absolutely gub them... Oh the naivete of youth.
arbroath55
`76 was my first, my mate and I went through from Edinburgh without tickets hoping to buy outside the ground, not much luck until a local demonstrated how to follow a ticket holder through the turnstile whilst slapping a folded £1 note in the general direction of the Christmas box. So that`s how we ended up in the schoolboys enclosure about 2 feet below pitch level. Two years later we stood in the rain, defeated but singing `We`re off to Argentine..` 1980 we were in the Rangers end so didn't get too wet By 1982 I was moving up in the world and was in the stand `84 I flew up on the morning of the game from Heathrow and sat beside 2 English lads, one was a young Simon Barnes from The Times who wasn't on duty and was half hoping the TV signal went down as his boss who was covering the game was claiming expenses but watching on TV. My mate met me at the airport and we took Simon and his pal out for a cocktail and pre-match curry. `86 flew up on the same plane as Bobby Moore and ended up in hospitality where Bobby and Slim Jim were on stage for a Q & A. `88 didn't go or `89 Didn't do `99 My Wembley Caps - `77 `79 `81 ` 83 `85 `87 `99 `96 `14 Not there tomorrow but played football tonight ( near London ) and can confirm the locals are just as keen to beat us as we are them

arbroath55
Impressive haul, but it was actually 86' & 88' at Wembley. We'd 2 home games in a row thanks to Mrs T... Ta, was trying to work it out late last night, I remember `83 was a midweek evening game and we ended up with passes to get into hospitality at Wembley Conference centre and bumped into Alex Ferguson, my mate picked up a sausage roll and held it up to the great mans mouth and said ` Alex, what would you have said to the lads at half time` Can't remember if `86 was midweek or weekend but `88 was a Saturday afternoon and it was the first one that I remember thinking there were a few English there. In `77 I was in the stand, in `79 & `81 I was in the ground and who knows what the actual attendance was, as I went through the turnstile I had a guy tight behind me putting the fiver down for the turnstile operator and a guy crawling through my legs under the turnstile

glasgow jock
1985 was the first game against England at Hampden that I remember seeing any England fans, 1987 & 1989 (In particular) they had traveled up in large numbers, quite a bit of bother at the '87 game, but i can honestly say the '89 game had the worst scenes of violence i have ever witnessed in Glasgow (and that includes OF games, bigot parades etc etc) mental
popkean1314foreva
`85 Was my first game against England . I`d been going to other internationals since I was 12 on the QOTS supporters` busses , but my mum said I wasn`t allowed to go to see England until I was older and accompanied by a responsible adult ( in this case it was my 24 year old brother , who was neither responsible or particularly an adult . ) Anyway I was in the `Celtic` end and it peed down the whole game but I went home soaked but happy until i got in and my mum hit the roof as I was covered in what she was convinced was blood . Took a bit of convincing her that the dye from my lion rampant flag which i`d put over my head to protect me from the weather , had ran and made my skin and everything i was wearing dark red Edited November 18, 2014 by popkean1314foreva

Pissed off when it was switched to Hampden so didn't go. Regret that now. I fit exactly into the profile in the OP! At least I was wt Wembley in 99. wanderer
Was going to Wembley in 85. Pissed off when it was switched to Hampden so didn't go. Regret that now. What was the reason for the game being switched? Sure I was told it was something silly like London not having enough police to go around due to it being a bank holiday weekend..... Toepoke
What was the reason for the game being switched? Sure I was told it was something silly like London not having enough police to go around due to it being a bank holiday weekend..... There was a load of incidents of hooliganism in England that season and IIRC the Tories (and FA) wanted the game stopped. The SFA stepped in and said they'd host it in a last ditch attempt to keep the series going. Consequently the game passed relatively trouble free but with tragic irony the Heysel disaster happened the following Wednesday...
