DoonTheSlope
Was there not something a few years ago where FIFA/UEFA wouldn't allow Poppy's on the shirt or a minutes silence?? It fell on the 11th and was Cyprus I think

Hertsscot
Flora - in the North maybe. The Republic remained neutral in WWII. True but many born in the Republic still joined up in the fight against fascism
Hertsscot
Its not necessary and it would give the green order types the chance to make a bunny rabbit of themselves. Agreed. Remembrance Day is that a 'day', not a season and you're absolutely right about the bunny rabbits

ErsatzThistle
This time of year it seems some folk are desperate to be offended if someone or something isn't wearing a poppy or isn't showing enough "respect". Our international team should stay out of this whole thing. There are many different ways to show your respect and remembrance for those who died in WW1 and WW2. A Scotland international match is not one of them in my opinion. What exactly does putting a poppy on football jersey and all that sort of thing really achieve anyway ? In fact, why do we even need to get involved in any of this ? Barring that Cyprus friendly, have we ever had to do anything for Remembrance Day before ? McToot
Was there not something a few years ago where FIFA/UEFA wouldn't allow Poppy's on the shirt or a minutes silence?? It fell on the 11th and was against Cyprus I think I seem to remember there was something like that but in the end they did have poppies. It was on an armband that fell off almost instantly though. Eastiebeastie
Best left alone for the reasons above. The British army are not held in high esteem in the Republic.
wanderer
I seem to remember there was something like that but in the end they did have poppies. It was on an armband that fell off almost instantly though. Yeah that was Cyprus away. FIFA would not let us use them on our shirts (think SFA wanted them embroided onto the kits) and was viewed as political. In end team wore armbands, but like you said most fell off or were discarded of within minutes of the game starting.
