Probably a good job that he wasn’t sent to jail as his sentence has just been overturned.

A miscarriage of justice as the judge misdirected the jury, insufficient evidence to convict.

What an absolutely embarrassing state of affairs.

Her lawyer said

"It is always the responsibility of the trial judge to formulate the appropriate legal directions to give a jury.  In this case, the procedure adopted was manifestly unfair and prejudicial to the defence and, on this basis the appeal had to succeed."

Seems like the verdict had to be quashed but must be devastating for the girl in question. The initial sentence was controversial but is now compounded by this. If he was a referee he wouldn't be officiating this weekend.

On a more general note, can judges get sacked?

I’ve no real idea of what evidence there was in this case or in fact whether or not the accused was guilty, like many people I only became aware of the case because of the ridiculous sentence.

Either a guilty man has been freed on a technicality because of a serious mistake by the judge or and innocent man was convicted on the basis of a misdirection by the judge.

It sounds as if the misdirection was pretty obvious and was picked up pretty quickly, the prosecution accepted it and the conviction was thrown straight out.  COPFS were planning on appealing the sentence but where waiting for the appeal on conviction to succeed with what now appears to good reason.

Who holds judges to account?

This just goes to show that some on here were right, there are people within the SNP who are not there to win independence. Cameron clearly wasn't otherwise there's no way she would defect to the ultimate unionist party.

Nah - it is a complete act of revenge

The Tories have no chance in that constituency

Grant Costello is more woo woo rather than Indpendence first

It's a bad light on the SNP and also ALBA as she could have gone there

There’s some amount of mental gymnastics going on in that post.

Then why not join Alba?

Dr Cameron, a former NHS clinical psychologist, said she had received support from Mr Sunak after her mental wellbeing deteriorated in recent weeks, but had no contact from the SNP leadership.

She rowed back on her support for Scottish independence, describing it as divisive. She said she would instead focus on "constructive policies".

That is fucking hilarious. Sunak give her a little attention and she completely changes her political views. Can someone head round to her house with a box of milk tray and a SNP card...........that should win her back

Rumours that she’s on her way to the Lords as a reward.

Well of course Wings doesn’t believe in independence any more either.

That article is nothing more than bigoted homophobic bile.

How someone could share that is completely beyond me.
