More often than not the better technical team will win the shootout.

I would say that it's also got a lot to do with who practices more and practices better. I think Dundee Utd practice with a rugby ball, if at all? Ability and being prepared can come into it but all it takes is for a keeper to guess the correct way to dive a couple of times and it’s game over. When there’s that much guesswork involved it’s a lottery and any professional team can beat any other professional team in a shootout. If it was a lottery then you wouldn't have had players like Graeme Alexander and Matt Le Tissier with almost 100% penalty records. Penalty taking is a skill. We would have a much better chance of winning a penalty shoot out against San Marino than we would against France.
weekevie04
New and terrifying ways for us to go out! Let's hope we change the script this time! Can see it now - hammer Israel ; the whole nation (even non believers in the national team) now BELIEVE ; and then off to Oslo, 1-0 up before conceding in the added time 1-1 and out 6-5 on penalties after going 2-0 up! I’m obviously oversimplifying it a bit but there is so much luck involved it’s as good as a lottery. OK so if we played a team like Germany or France in a penalty shoot out they’d probably beat us 7 times out of 10 due to their obvious technical superiority and experience of being involved in shoot outs but when it comes to playing Israel, Serbia or Norway its 50/50 for me. We must be one of the few long established international teams to never feature in a penalty shoot out?! Cheers Yeah quite a long time ago indeed and a bit before my time. It’s time we put that situation right then eh?

Away goals should count double. But only in the final.

Doesn’t mean that practice will do them much good in the pressure cooker of a penalty shootout though. Can’t hurt obviously but since most keepers dive before the ball is kicked it would probably be more valuable to watch your opponents taking penalties prior to the match. Bonny79
If we are level away to vikings or Serbia then we are doing well. Could go to pens in Israel game 🙄🙄😍😍🤞

Rohan
Will it be a 50/50 split for tickets in the final?
