Just looked it up.They have played 2 more than Celtic but on a good winning run Edited October 20, 2015 by jim.mccole
Squirrelhumper
Killies results are inconsistent to say the least! Saw a stat at the weekend saying we've fielded at least 1 player from our youth system in every one of our last 350 first team games dating back to 2007. Think Saturdays squad had 7 or 8. adamntg
Likewise, United's under 20 team generally don't do very well. That could be down to most of the best young players being with the first team.
AberdeenAngus
Do a lot of clubs not more or less rebuild every 2 years at that level? Aberdeen won it last year but have been inconsistent this term so far. Loads of new names in the team this season though suggesting quite a young side. That could be down to most of the best young players being with the first team. Out our team on Saturday I think Ohara, Kiltie, Slater and Frizzell are still eligible for the 20s. Any half decent youth player's are in the first team squad at 17/18. Tons of 16 and 17 years make up the 20s.

Aberdeen won it by miles last year but many of the youngsters in that team have been let go. Shankland, who scored a massive amount of goals, is on loan at St Mirren and may or may not make it in the first team. I realise that the OP is all excited, but being (temporarily) top of the development league is no absolute guarantee of a conveyor belt of quality youngsters breaking into the first team. We won the youth cup and I think the only 3 that made it to any degree were Steven Naismith, Jamie Hamill and Cammy Bell.

AberdeenAngus
Did Celtic not win an U19 league and cup double a few years back then release the whole squad? Not sure if thats true or not.
adamntg
On the other hand, I think United's under 20s won 3-2 at Motherwell today (well, they were winning 3-2 with five to go in the last tweet I saw) and we'll take any win we can get just now - under 20s, Ladies team, Tennents Sixes if they bring it back. They lost 4-3. Motherwell won it in the very last minute. Good game and in particular Motherwell's second goal, Luke Watt i think it is. Rossy
It's a rather sad set of affairs in Scottish football where we've got/had succesful Killie, Hibs, Celtic, Aberdeen development sides....and very few players have broken through into the first teams. Surely it's something that should be looked at in the Scottish game, the fact that very few players with potential actually make it ? Squirrelhumper
Since we got promoted I'm trying to think of players that came through our youth system that have won caps for Scotland. Boyd Naismith Canero Kelly Bell That's all I can think of. Pretty poor.

Squirrelhumper
Canero was a cracking player blighted by injury. The Canero who was capped would walk into the current Rangers side.

EddardStark
Rangers beat Hibs 3-0 yesterday with 2 goals for Ryan Hardie and the other from McCrorie. Hardie is the next player that should step up to the first team.

Hardie is the next player that should step up to the first team. We are playing a lot of our under 17s and 18s in the u20s now. With the u20s (and all our other levels) playing the same style and formation as the first team. Since Sinclair got the boot and Mullonand got his job their has been a massive difference in our style and technique
