Guid Luck tae Catalunya. Sunday 27th September.

Nae Referendums for the Catalans. Just an independence plebiscite based on their "regional" elections. Hope they vote for self-determination.

7 May 2016 anyone ? SNP/Green/RISE will take minimum 55% of the vote.

FC Barcelona, currently in second place on goal difference in La Liga, could end up in the same position as Scotland’s Celtic FC. Forced out of La Liga and into a new Catalonia version, Barca could end up playing in a league where they won every match without being challenged.

How official is this vote today? Is it official regional votes within Spain that the Catalonians will (hopefully) get a better deal out of and maybe a official vote one day? Or is it another unofficial vote that they hope will be another landslide that will either get Spain or the UN to take note of (which neither of did at the last one).

This will be decided in the courts.

I suspect the same would happen here if we had too quick a second referendum to decide which referendum is (more) legitimate. Just remember the Aberdeen bypass was held up be one twat and his failed legal case for about four years.

The more important FC Barcelona issue would be the beginning of merged-national leagues. The Spanish league sans-Barca would be greatly diminished and could not be allowed to happen.

It is the elections for the Catalan devolved parliament. Similar to Scottish parliament elections. So it's official in that sense. Not official in terms of an independence referendum.

Some independence supporting parties joined together to make it a de facto referendum and say that if they win a majority they will declare independence unilaterally in 18 months.

Cheers, so it's effectively the "pro-independence" parties piggy backing on a regional vote as such.

That was what I was thinking as its been pretty hard to get a clear picture

The lack of coverage in our media on this is a disgrace. Bad when we need an Arabian outlet to keep us up to date.

And are folk seriously trying to bring football teams into this decision? Catalan teams could easily continue as is. Seems to work fine in the NHL for Canada and The US.
