I'll never sing FoS again.

Was in the Stade de France on Saturday night and sat down and completely ignored it when it was played. I can't wait for Twickenham and can't wait for the howls of (deserved) laughter from the English.

I'll go for a pish, rather than listen to some No voting Qhunt belt out 'to be a nation again'.

I didn't get the email.

I opted out because of all the marketing that was getting sent.

Means I get nothing. No ticket alerts. Hee-haw.

Added value? Nane.

In summary, the good, honest, hard working people of Scotland should be represented by this contemporary piece of Scottish music.

Rather than the shite that gets played right now.

Capiche?

To echo a couple of previous posters. Have those that want Scotland the Brave actually ever read the lyrics to the song ?

It's the epitome of cringeworthy, shortbread tin bollocks. The exact kind of thing the anti-Scots love to portray us as indulging all the time.

Have a read if you don't believe me.

"Hark! When the night is falling
Hear, Hear! the pipes are calling,
Loudly and proudly calling, down through the glen.
There where the hills are sleeping,
Now feel the blood a-leaping,
High as the spirits of the old Highland men.

(Chorus)
(Towering in gallant fame,
Scotland my mountain hame,
High may your proud standards gloriously wave,
Land of my high endeavour,
Land of the shining river,
Land of my heart for ever, Scotland the brave.)

High in the misty Highlands,
Out by the purple islands,
Brave are the hearts that beat beneath Scottish skies.
Wild are the winds to meet you,
Staunch are the friends that greet you,
Kind as the love that shines from fair maidens' eyes.

(Chorus)

Far off in sunlit places,
Sad are the Scottish faces,
Yearning to feel the kiss of sweet Scottish rain.
Where tropic skies are beaming,
Love sets the heart a-dreaming,
Longing and dreaming for the homeland again.

(Chorus)"

:crazy::crazy:

Absolutely awful !

Some deid guy called Cliff Hanley is to blame for this twee, "och, what are we like !", garbage according to Wikipedia. :banghead:

Flower of Scotland all the way for me.

Scots Wha Hae would still be amazing to hear belted out by the TA en masse, it's an incredibly uplifting song.

I like Scots Wha Hae as well. Scotland the Brave is twee I also don't know that its very singable for most people - too high. Caledonia I love but is not really National anthem material, its a song about coming home. Surprised no-one's mentioned 'Freedom Come all ye' yet tho' probably too left wing for some.

Auld Lang Syne.

The entire world knows the tune at least, which would make us one of those rare countries whose melody for their anthem is recognised everywhere.

Lyrics are genuinely meaningful, and connected to our much loved national poet, who is himself admired worldwide. We even have a cool " move" we could do.

Quality words and fast pace to Scotland The Brave if everyone knew the words .

Failing that Russ Abbotts "Oh what an atmosphere I love a party with a happy atmosphere" or Erasure "Respect" please.

It will keep the big feather wearers from falling asleep after singing FOS .

Does Highland Cathedral even have words?

There are various sets of lyrics, I prefer the ones below, though probably just chorus, verse chorus and not the whole lot.

Highland Cathedral

Words by Ben Kelly

Land of our fathers, we will always be

Faithful and loyal to our own country.

In times of danger, we will set you free,

Lead you to glory and to victory.

Hail, Caledonia, to our ancient prayer.

In this Highland Cathedral, let our standards bear.

Joining, together, with one dream to share.

God bless the people of this land so fair.

Chorus

Gone is the past, let us start anew.

Let this hope of peace, always remain.

Spirit of Scotia, be strong and true.

Then your children will smile again, again, again, again.

Rise, Caledonia, let your voices ring

In this Highland Cathedral of our God and King.

Whom joy and liberty to all will bring.

Come; let your heart with love and courage sing.

Chorus

Lonely the exile, o'er distant seas,

The home of their birth, gone from their eyes.

Bring back their souls o'er the ocean breeze

To the land where their fathers lie.

Repeat last verse

It looks like you don't need to be in the SSC to vote just need the link to the survey. It has been posted on some unionist sites on Facebook and is doing the rounds there.

They are trying to hijack it to vote against FOS as it is a nationalist song etc etc SNP want it as official anthem etc etc.

Suspect there will be many votes for GSTQ in this case.

yip.... FoS is a rebel song. "We can still rise now and be a nation again...." detested in the extreme by unionists. Until we are a nation we should continue to sing a song which shows our aspiration.

this smacks of a unionist wheeze - they'd much prefer some twee p!sh about purple heather and mountains
