TBH Brighton are something of a team on the up, so it is not a total disaster, and will have a lot more chance of first team football there than at Real.

Fantastic new stadium, but have just not been able to make the next step up in recent years after they got beat in the play off's couple of seasons back.

He's going from Real Madrid to fecking Brighton. It's like going from shagging Jessica Alba to Susan Boyle. A fecking horrific move, despite your love affair with the English Championship and the utter dross players that permeate 90% of its clubs.

End the discussion here.

seriously dissapointed. There was chat of La Liga teams being interested, even if it was a lower half La Liga team it would have been much better.

19 year old Player leaves Real Madrid because he can't get a game shock horror! Brighton have fantastic facilities, financial backing and are up and coming. If he can get 20+ first team appearances anf if he is as good as we all hope he'll get a move to a better club. The championship is a good shop window and If nothing else it shows his commitment to Scotland as he wants to show WGS what he can do!

He is only a young pup FFS.

Brighton have done well with the Spanish players they have bought.

Maybe he isn't good enough for Real Madrid, fair enough, he will have had great coaching.

Agree.

Personally would love to see him stay in Spain, but lets face it, he will not end up at a Barca, Athletico, Espanyol, Villarreal, Valencia etc..... (and if he does end up at the likes of a Valencia, Betis or Malaga, he is just going to be chucked straight into the B or C team.... so no real development).

Probably a touch of snobbery on here that he is being linked with Brighton (with images of flirting with relegation to the conference in the 90's against Hereford and playing at the Withdean (which makes most Scottish Junior Grounds look like the Bernabeu)..... when reality is they have facilities, crowds and backing that almost the whole of Scottish football wish it could have.

Harper had two years left on his contract in Spain but opted to depart after the club scrapped its ‘C’ team. The ‘C’ team would have been the next step up for Harper, who was born in February 1996, after departing the Juvenil A side, effectively Madrid’s Under-19s. He was offered a contract with Castilla, Madrid’s ‘B’ team, and the opportunity to go out on loan this season, but instead chose to continue his career elsewhere.

I think it's an ok move. If he is what we hope he is then it's time to play first team football and if he does well at Brighton he could be in the Scotland squad this year. If he can't make it at Brighton then he's not who we hope he is.

The groundwork has been done, up to him now.

First and foremost now - he needs first team football which he wasn't going to get at Real Madrid. He has been schooled at one of the very best clubs in the world but it is now time to put that schooling to test.

Picture it. Many of us on here feel he is the Real (pardon the pun) deal so if that is the case then he theoretically could catapult himself into our squad if he starts really well at Brighton by the end of the coming season (or perhaps before). But, if he had remained at Real playing at junior levels then we would still be sitting here wondering in a year or maybe even two years time. Not what Scotland need.

Best of luck at Brighton to Jack Harper and who knows it could be a brief stay if he impresses.

Those wishing him to stay in Spain - fair enough. However, if he is to be integrated into the Scotland side in the future he'll have trouble playing the Spanish-style of game in our side.

Amongst much competition, that is the biggest load of p 1 5 h you have posted on here. How is it to Scotland's advantage we have as few players as possible comfortable with the ball?

FFS. Mental case.

People here (reading earlier comments) need to ask themselves questions such as:-

1. Was Harper going to get first team football at Real Madrid in say the next two years?

I say not.

2. Was Harper going to get first team football straight away at a La Liga club this season?

Unlikely.

3. Is Harper likely to get first team football before Xmas at Brighton?

Most likely.

If Jack Harper is the real deal like we like to think he is then moving to Brighton will be a stepping stone for him to show off his talents and before long a bigger club will come calling and in the meantime he gets first team football. What is wrong in that compared to kicking his heals at youth level at Real Madrid?

He's had 6 years development in Spain - a few years in the UK will do him no harm. He will go back to La Liga a better player, ready for international football.
